Progressives already split between two challengers in the 14th Suffolk state representative's district (Hyde Park, Roslindale, West Roxbury) now have a third candidate running against incumbent Angelo Scaccia, who has been a state rep for 41 years now. Read more.
WGBH reports that state Reps. Diana DiZoglio (Methuen) and Angelo Scaccia (Hyde Park) both tore into Speaker Robert DeLeo on the house floor over non-disclosure agreements State House workers had to sign to get settlements for their sexual-harassment complaints. DiZoglio herself had to sign one while she was a legislative aide. Democratic reps traditionally do not criticize DeLeo on the floor.
Hours after Segun Idowu announced he wants to run against longtime state Rep. Angelo Scaccia next year, Hyde Park civil-rights attorney Gretchen Van Ness announced she plans to run for the 14th Suffolk seat as well.

The Bulletin introduces us to Virak Uy, a Boston public-school teacher who is running against Angelo Scaccia, the longest continuously serving member of the state House of Representatives, in the 14th Suffolk district (Hyde Park and a tad of Roslindale).

Seems like the only time you ever hear of this guy, the august state rep from Hyde Park (and my small sliver of Roslindale) is when he manages to grind the legislature to a halt over some issue that doesn't involve his district at all (anybody remember how he tied up the disposition of the old Boston State Hospital for years?). This time: A liquor license for some supermarket in Westwood.
Kathleen Powers quotes my state rep, the normally reclusive Angelo Scaccia:
"Mr. Speaker, we have a chance to tax the well-endowed." ...
He was, allegedly, referring to a proposed tax on private colleges with endowments of more than $1 billion.
And if so, does that mean Mike Rush of West Roxbury and Angelo Scaccia are half-wits when apart? If nothing else, they should realize that sending press releases with the same exact quote to the newspaper that covers parts of both their districts might get a reporter to blogging.
