Ipswich Police report:

Marguerite Tomany, age 61, of North Grosvenor Dale, Conn., died as a result of injuries suffered in the lightning strike. The second victim, a 69-year-old woman from Concord, Mass. remains in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Both were in the water on Saturday when the first of three storms to hit Ipswich suddenly appeared, police say.

They started the Esplanade fireworks a bit early tonight - just in time for them to end and evacuate the area as a storm plowed across the area, knocking out power in at least part of Waltham and Cambridge and sending skittish dogs and children under beds.

Have to give Boston Pops organizers credit on timing. Made it from the esplanade lagoon to Kenmore JUST as the rain started.

Frozen Fenway more like soggy Fenway

Daniel Guzman is at Fenway Park, where Frozen Fenway has turned into Soggy Fenway and he has now experienced that oddest of things: a hockey game postponed on account of lightning.

Firefighters rushed to Washington Street by JJ Brannelly's after lightning hit a transformer shortly before 5 p.m. Wires fell on a parked car and residences and businesses in the area lost power.

UPDATE: Jason Laramie reports the power came back around 5:50 p.m.
