The Swellesley Report chronicles a pair of arrests at a normally genteel restaurant in the normally genteel town: A couple who find the sight of masks disturbing while they eat asked people at another table to take their off. Those people refused, words were exchanged, other tables got involved and before police arrived the woman was hurling silverware and the man was threatening to beat up other patrons. Police then gave the couple a tour of their booking desk.
The parents of three special-needs students are suing both their communities and the state for the harm they say was done to their children in the way schools suddenly switched to online education in March, 2020 and in the way they say their schools did nothing to help provide the special teaching and assistance the children needed to work online. The Swellesley Report alerts us that police in Wellesley are investigating a string of incidents in which men sent nude selfies to women they'd started chatting with on Instagram and SnapChat who claimed they had a deep interest in such things - only to then use the photos to blackmail the men by threatening to send copies to family and friends. One guy sent some money, but it wasn't enough, so the woman made good on her threat.
The latest Rte. 9 rage report from the Swellesley Report involves a man who was trying to pass somebody on the right near the Wellesley Hills fire station, only that person gave the man the finger, so the man responded by throwing a bag containing an egg sandwich at the finger waver. He was cited for vandalism and littering.
Wellesley Police reported around 1 p.m. that the driver of this car flipped on Rte. 9 eastbound just past Oakland Street. Only minor injuries, they report.
Wellesley Police report that Bacon Street is closed between Rte. 135 and Oak Street in Natick this morning thanks to the driver of a big rig who discovered too late his rig was too big for the Worcester Line train bridge. Crews and engineers are now on scene trying to remove the carcass and ensure the bridge is still structurally sound.
A federal judge in Boston agreed today to reduce the amount of cash a Wellesley man had to put up to secure his freedom as he awaits trial from $500,000 to $300,000 because court delays related to Covid-19 have put off hearings related to the case against him and he has no other way to pay his lawyers or support his family.
