Patron Yemere came to Roxbury to learn how Family Independence Initiative (www.fii.org) works. A few months later he was on a flight to Tanzania to sow the seeds of the new initiative in his homeland. The rest is history. This weekend, at a workshop in Boston, two African brothers joined the new initive that share dreams and resources in helping families achieve economic mobility.
Boston - Seyfarth Shaw and Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) today announced their partnership in hosting a free legal services fair for the Dorchester/Roxbury community. A convicted sex offender was sentenced to ten years in federal prison on a child-pornography charge last week, after admitting ownership of the files an FBI agent found on his computer via a file-sharing network.
William F. Murphy, a resident of Boston's only trailer park, initially told investigators he was only doing research to determine whether his girlfriend, with whom he was living, had been forced as a child to engage in sexual acts by a child-porn ring he wanted to expose, according to an affidavit by an FBI agent who investigated his case. He claimed he had tried to present the evidence to Boston Police, but that they had turned him away because of his status as a sex offender - he was convicted in 1988 of raping his 9-year-old stepdaughter.

Victor Green, a resident of Harlem came up with the idea for a travel book to prevent African-Americans from being "humiliated" (his word) while on the road.
"The Green Book," as it was known, was first published in 1936. Initially, it pointed out friendly restaurants and hotels in New York. It eventually expanded to include everything from lodging and gas stations to tailor shops and doctor's offices across the nation, as well as in Bermuda, Mexico and Canada.
You can find copies of various editions of the book on the Internet. The 1949 edition included shops and restaurants in Boston and other Massachusetts' cities.
Below, names and addresses of several beauty salons, barbers, and "tourist homes" for those visiting the South End. A second column included several Roxbury locales. (Even then, the dividing line between the two neighborhoods was an open question.)
Accelerating up the slope of Hawthorne street, I held enough speed to take the corner leading me to Highland; anticipating the momentum I would gain down Highland Street towards Cedar, my adrenaline began to build. Suddenly I was perplexed by the two canoes atop a familiar looking Jeep at the Highland and Fort Ave. intersection- it my attention from the corner of my eye.
So I took Ramona on her usual dog walk tonight with much trepidation. Last night's altercation has been weighing on me all day. I certainly did not want another incident like last night and at the same time I do not want to be intimidated away from the park which I only use 10 mins in the morning and the evening everyday. As I was making my rounds I ran into the other dogwalker who witnessed the whole argument. I was ready to pounce on him for slinking away BUT he apologized profusely for the other person's behavior and how disgusted he was at what happened. He went on to say that I was completely in the right and that dog has been aggressive to other dogs in the park. Both the guys who walk Jazzy do absolutely nothing about her and he is going to have a talk with the guy who I argued with last night. It was completely uncalled for. I cannot tell you how vindicated I felt. Since Jazzy's owner is friendly with many other dog owners in the park I was worried about my relationship with the other walkers. I feel so much better knowing that there are people who get it.
I've started a blog on Fort Hill and Roxbury neighborhood issues: jonasprang.blogspot.com. The germ of the blog is the Settles Kerfuffle at 85 Centre Street, but I may branch out once that issue gets thrashed out.
Like many infant blogs, it's a little messy and not very attractive. Even so, I think I'll concentrate on the prose before tarting it up with pretty pictures.

What took the committed loyal listeners of WILD-AM such a long time to put up a MySpace webpage? Looks like some of them from the communities of "Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan" had enough of Touch FM, with some of the lies told by and protecting the guilty parties of City Councilor Chuck Turner and former State Senator Diane Wilkerson.
So it looks like WILD-AM has now stepped up to the plate. Thank God!!!
Now let's see if somebody will buy the radio station, keep Radio One and make 1090AM what it was and not what's left of it.
