Literally. Alert New England reports the Boston Fire Department responded to 4 Yawkey Way - the Sox front office - for a second-floor fire around 11:30. The fire was quickly knocked down.

A glassy-eyed, alcohol-infused Sox fan who had to be wrestled to the ground at a game in July after knocking a woman down raised the hackles of Boston Licensing Board Chairwoman Nicole Murati Ferrer today.
"What concerns me right now is the level of intoxication of this patron," she told Fenway officials at a hearing on a police citation for having a "disorderly, intoxicated patron arrested on the premises" at a July 27 game.
Sox officials said the issue was more one of general belligerence than drunkenness - the guy just seemed to have a lot of pent up anger and had been yelling for several innings.

According to police, witnesses saw Margaret A. Donahue, 40, use her foot to move the purse of another woman seated out in the right-field area, then reach down, pick it up and walk away:

AT&T says it's dramatically boosted its wireless broadband capacity in the vicinity of Fenway Park, meaning customers are less likely to strike out while trying to make phone calls or getting online during games.
The company says it did this by adding a distributed antenna system to the area around the park.

The Boston Licensing Board this morning gave Fenway Park a permanent green light to sell mixed drinks in the grandstand during Sox games.
The vote came after managers from the Sox and concession holder Aramark told the board they had had no problems with underage or overserved drinkers under the license first approved in April for grandstand sales of mixed drinks.

Boston Police report a Vermont woman who jumped into the Red Sox bullpen last night looking for a Sox pitcher to hug her instead found only the long arm of the fist-bumping detail cop, who arrested her on a charge of disturbing a public assembly.

The Boston Licensing Board voted today to let the Red Sox begin sales of mixed drinks to the common people at Fenway Park, approving a plan under which five existing beer booths will be outfitted to serve dilute mixed drinks - with no more than an ounce of hard liquor on them.

The Red Sox today submitted plans to the Boston Licensing Board to sell what it said would be diluted mixed drinks at five locations inside the ballpark. In an effort to placate city officials, the team said it would not sell mixed drinks in the bleachers - although officials agreed bleacher fans could easily walk to one of the five other stands where the team does want to sell the liquor.
After meeting with Boston Police, the team also agreed to cut off liquor sales after two hours or the seventh inning, whichever comes first. Currently, the team cuts off beer sales after 2 1/2 hours or the seventh inning.
