Ted Kennedy

Former Herald reporter Ed Cafasso dissects the Kennedy media frenzy of the past few days, and predicts that once every last Hyannisport resident is interviewed about their neighbor that we'll see three more types of stories: the Teddy-as-sinner story, the "What did Kennedy insiders know and when did they know it?" story and the media teeth-gnashing story:

... Reporters interview other reporters and journalism professors to figure out if they went overboard in their coverage. Here's a tip: If you feel compelled to do a story examining whether you should have done all the stories you did, then it's safe to say you should have chosen not to do some of them in the first place. ...

Lance notes the news stories about our don't-let-Mitt-appoint-anybody senatorial succession law, but wonders why nobody's picked up on another provision in the law that only applies in even-numbered years.

Berryjooks recalls when he was in a terrible out-of-state car accident with no health insurance:

... I ended up in New England Memorial in Stoneham, and within a couple of days the doctors there told my parents that there wasn't anything more they could do for me.

A friend of the family called Ted's office and explained the situation, and that same afternoon the State Police came and escorted me to the New England Baptist Hospital and delivered me into the care of one of the most amazing and talented liver surgeons in the country, Dr. Kenneth Warren. The rest, as they say, is history.

Without Ted's intervention, I wouldn't have made it. Children, grandchildren, none of that would have happened.

And who was I?

Just some constituent. ...

Meanwhile, Cleary Squared remembers when his father was diagnosed with a malignant glioma:

... Radiation, plus the gliomas, effectively scrambled my father's brains, and caused other complications such as hematomas, headaches, and loss of physical coordination. By September 2005, he was wheelchair bound, but still somewhat lucid, and actually looked like he was getting better. However, once the cancer spread to his spine, we knew it would be a matter of time. We planned his funeral in October, thinking he'd survive until at least after Christmas. He died two days before Thanksgiving, after celebrating his 35th wedding anniversary, at the age of 63. ...

KennedyMalignant glioma, treatment consists of radiation and chemotherapy, but outlook is grim.

Statement from Mass. General.

Information on malignant glioma from the National Cancer Institute: "The outlook for patients with malignant gliomas is poor." More from the Journal of the AMA.

Dan Kennedy, however, notes that Arlen Spector has been serving in the Senate since the 1990s despite battling various types of cancer, including a brain tumor.

GOP News wonders which sacrificial lamb bold new face Republican voters should chose on Tuesday to face Ted Kennedy in November.

There's a whole 'nother world westa Worcester. And many folks out there see things a bit differently than we do. For example, even our local conservative blogs have yet to note, as have several conservative blogs in the heartland, that Ronald Reagan vetoed the initial appropriation for the Big Dig.

Aaron Margolis throws his support behind a movement by west-of-Worcester conservatives to boycott Massachusetts because of Ted Kennedy's stance on immigration, even though he doubts it will result in any changes: Chappaquiddick, Chappaquiddick, Chappaquiddick:

... So let's see if the message gets to the voters...I'm not holding my breath for a huge blow to the state economy. I'm stuck in this state for the time being, so I'll have to depend on you guys outside the state line to boycott on my behalf.

Charlie on the MTA notes that, thanks in part to Ted Kennedy's objection to the Cape Wind project, wind-power projects all over the country have ground to a halt:

... This is plainly an attempt at paralysis by analysis by Senators Kennedy and Warner. How ironic that a supposed environmentalist Senator is strangling an entire fledgling industry -- one that is clean; that will contribute to energy independence; and will fight global warming. ...

That would be Charlie on the MTA on the lefty Blue Mass. Group expressing his outrage over Ted Kennedy's back-room dealing to kill the Cape Wind project.

Jay Fitzgerald says such a race would prove the existence of a Tabloid God:

Ted Kennedy is going to crunch anyone who challenges him -- including possibly Peter Blute. But a Kennedy-Blute showdown would be a classic race to follow, knowing that at any moment a campaign aide could easily trigger a round of charges about who was the more bloated boozy womanizer in his youth. ...

That sums up how Massachusetts GOP News views this fall's election for U.S. senate between Kevin Scott and Ted Kennedy:

... Ted Kennedy is a dinosaur in a world full of high-definition, real-time, and speed of light individuals. Ted is an aged, bumbling and misguided woolly mammoth caught in the chaos of the 21st century. ...

Kevin Scott for US Senate - in case you're one of the few people who've never heard of this virile manly man.

Hah, take that, wingnuts! A true commie would know the difference between the Little Red Book and the Communist Manifesto.

Sissy calls her local congressman and senators to see what they plan to do to cut pork. She writes:

... Not that we would ever vote for one of them in a million years. But Capuano's and Kennedy's staff were friendly and helpful -- professional -- while Kerry's were snotty and dismissive ...
