Vigil participants on Tower Street

Eric Esteves was among those calling for immediate action tonight to prevent more pedestrian fatalities around the Forest Hills MBTA station, following the Oct. 12 death of Glenn Inghram as he crossed Washington Street and was hit by an MBTA bus.

The vigil was held on Tower Street at Washington, near where Ingrahm was fatally hit.

A woman suffered possibly life-threatening injuries when hit by a large box truck at Essex Street and Atlantic Avenue around 6:30 a.m. The truck driver remained at the scene.

City councilors today agreed with a move by Councilor Ed Flynn (South Boston, South End, Chinatown, Downtown) to look at doing way more to keep pedstrians alive - the day after a man in a wheelchair died under the wheels of a concrete truck on Frontage Road and the week after a 4-year-old girl died under the wheels of a pickup behind the Children's Museum. State Police report a Boston man in a wheelchair was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash with a Boston Sand and Gravel truck hauling concrete at Frontage Road and Traveler Street around 10:10 a.m. today. Read more.

DCR planners told the Longfellow Area Neighborhood Association last night they hope to go out to bid this spring for a contractor to add traffic signals and do related intersection changes where Walter Street meets Centre Street in Roslindale. Read more.

A pedestrian was taken away in critical condition after being hit by Engine 24 on Bowdoin Street near Geneva Avenue in Dorchester around 12:25 p.m.

Two ambulances were summoned to the scene, one for the victim and one for firefighters on the truck, which is based in Grove Hall.

The Dorchester Reporter reports on a growing effort to convert the "tunnel cap" that covers the Red Line between Fields Corner and Ashmont into a something more parklike, a greenway for pedestrians and bicyclists. Small sections are already in use for parks, but other sections are fenced off.

The driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee told police that when the Ford F-150 in front of him on Centre Street in West Roxbury wasn't moving, he figured he'd just swing around into the left lane and be on his way, according to a copy of a Boston Police report on a crash at the crosswalk at Centre and Maple streets around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday.
