Team Brookline has 42 runners, 4 charitable causes…
and advice from its own mental health expert.

Everyone who ran in, attended, watched, supported the Marathon last year keenly felt the effects of the day and what followed. For many of us, those feelings will come flooding back this year on April 21. But runners training for this year’s Boston Marathon are deep into that experience already.

That’s why Team Brookline is drawing on the expertise of a special coach this year: a mental health expert who will talk with the Team as part of its training regimen.

Some local Boston running groups are getting together to remember those that were hurt or lost their lives in yesterday's tragedy. The Kier Byrnes Freedom Runners have weekly Tuesday night runs from Courtside Karaoke in Cambridge. They decided to gather and raise money for the victims and their families, and to show that Boston is a strong city, and will keep running.

Donations will be taken to give to the Boston Marathon Relief fund, Courtside will also donate a portion of the nights profits.

... "Thanks!" I said with an equally friendly smile, and I put the entire wad of stuff in my mouth.

...at which point the entire table of volunteers began to scream. "no no NO! You don't EAT THAT!!!!" Because in fact what I had just put in my mouth was something called "Biofreeze." ...

Christine cheers her sister on during yesterday's Boston Half Marathon:

... Afterwards over lunch I asked Sharon how she managed to look so fresh and upbeat at the end of her 13 mile journey. She said that her goal was to stay tuned in physically and mentally during the race; to listen to what her instincts and body were telling her and to move through the course at a pace where she felt energized yet comfortable. ...

Jonelle runs the BAA Half-Marathon and posts some of the things she overheard:

... "You said there weren't any hills! I hate you right now!" (Another woman to her male running partner. And it wasn't in a joking tone of voice. It was in more of a "I'm going to break up with you at around Mile 10 because I feel like I can't trust you anymore" tone of voice.) ...
