Cambridge City Councilor Leland Cheung says it's time to eliminate the governor's council, a holdover from the days when the governor was appointed by the king of England.

Cheung says the council's most important role - confirming the appointment of judicial nominees - could be handed over to the state Senate.

What? You weren't aware there was one? Of course, there is, and David takes a look at the three initial Democratic candidates. Sure, it seems like a useless office, but if recent history is any guide, whoever becomes lieutenant governor ultimately becomes governor, what with the Beacon Hill being such a jumping-off point for um, the ambassador's job in Ottawa. David adds the Blue Mass. Group interviewed one on the phone recently and hopes to post notes soon.
