Capt. John Greland of District C-6 reports the owner of a car parked for a week at 391 Congress St. came back the other day to find his or her rear window smashed with an ax. Greland says police know an ax was used because whoever did it left the ax behind.

Capt. John Greland at C-6 reports that around 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, a brawl outside 1 Marina Park Dr. ended with several participants injured and on their way to local hospitals.

The Herald reports Mayor Walsh is trying to lure a grand-prix race to the South Boston waterfront.
Mario Batali will pay $410,000 for the liquor license of the closed Castlebar on Washington Street so he can serve libations to patrons of his planned wood-fired pizza place on the South Boston waterfront
Batali's attorney, Joseph Hanley, told the Boston Licensing Board that Batali will spend $2.5 million in total to outfit his planned Babbo on Fan Pier.
As required, Hanley answered the question of the public need for the new restaurant: He said the Innovation District is attracting innovators, who need an innovative restaurant in which to eat.
The Boston Licensing Board next week considers a request from New York celebrichef Mario Batali to buy the liquor license of the recently shuttered Castlebar in Oak Square.
If the board approves, Batali will be able to serve harder libations to customers of his planned Babbo pizzeria in a new building under construction on Fan Pier.
The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.
People in parts of South Boston woke up this morning to little or no water pressure. LVRII photographed the Northern Avenue site of the water-main break that caused the problem.
Above is Boston's newest lake. Below is the bubbling source of the lake:
The city IT department plans a hackathon next month to let developers use a new gateway into city systems to build an online permitting system that might replace the current confusing system that often forces people who want to set up a restaurant or add a porch to their homes to spend months battling paperwork and bureaucracy - and sometimes make trips to offices miles apart.
HubHacks will be held Aug. 9 and 10 at District Hall, in the heart of the Innovation District.
The Globe reports New Yorker Mario Batali is opening a wood-fired pizza place on Fan Pier.
You may recall how last year, Batali was all set to buy Todd English's liquor license from his defunct Kingfish Hall for a wood-fired pizza place on Summer Street, only there was all the unpleasantness over English's license being seized and all and then Batali's would-be landlord had second thoughts about putting in a wood-fired pizza oven.
Hashi K. Said, a.k.a. Said Said, of Quincy, was ordered held in lieu of $35,000 at his arraignment today on charges he raped and robbed a woman who flagged him down in the Seaport district early Sunday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
Said allegedly took her to a nearby but deserted location, where investigators believe he got in the rear of the vehicle, sexually assaulted her, and took property that included her iPhone, credit cards, and cash.
Chris Rich photographed a forlorn Anthony's Pier 4, now just sitting there, awaiting its demolition to make way for a park to go with the towers planned for the pier.
Already, the old locomotive that used to be parked out front is gone. Somewhere, no doubt, Anthony is escorting Liz to her table overlooking the water.

Cynthia Donovan reports that now that people are once again using the tops of news boxes to avoid the onerous task of taking their lunch detritus back to their office trash cans, now that the city has removed all the BigBelly trash containers along Congress Street on the South Boston side of Fort Point Channel. Sounds like a district in need of some innovation when it comes to trash.

An irate citizen complains about where some valet is parking the more exotic cars on Congress Street near the Children's Museum:
Four hours ago it was a Masserati parked in front of the hydrant. Now it's a vintage Caddie and Bentley. Are you going to do something about this valet or do special cars get special treatment? PLEASE!!
Earlier:
This is what happens to the cars of morons who park in front of hydrants.
Another reason not to park in front of a hydrant.
The owners of the Fan Pier development said today they'll be leasing space to a Starbucks, a Mediterranean meze restaurant and a daycare center.
The Starbucks, which will take 2,100 square feet, will join existing starbucks at the Manulife Financial building, the Renaissance Harbor Hotel and the Westin Boston Harborfront. It's slated to open this summer, according to the Fallon Company, which is building out Fan Pier as a mixed-use complex.
Capt. John Greland reports on an incident at Rosa Mexicano, 155 Seaport Blvd., last night:
Person refused to pay his bar tab but left his Russian passport on the bar.
MassLive reports on plans to move the tiny Our Lady of Good Voyage Chapel from Northern Avenue to space next to the Children's Museum, to make way for Yet Another Mega-Development.
Yesterday morning, I drove down to the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel on Congress Street (I was on a panel discussion).
A citizen stuck in traffic complains:
Please do something about the traffic out of the Seaport. It's taken almost 30 minutes to drive from the WTC to Vertex. Insane. It is literally crawling. But mostly dead stopped. Do not ask any other companies to move here until this is solved. Thank you.
As an industrial and warehouse district, the areas along Fort Point Channel and the harbor have had more than their share of fires over the decades. The Boston Public Library has posted a number of South Boston fire photos by Leslie Jones, including this four-alarm blaze at the National Wool warehouse on Congress Street in 1913 (above) and a six-alarm fire in 1915:
