Dan Grabausakas, for example, is building an el in Honolulu (and, hey, the project is delayed and possibly over budget).

Now President Obama has nominated Bev Scott for a seat on the National Transportation Safety Board (which would investigate any crashes on the T).

CommonWealth Magazine tracks down Bev Scott and talks to her about the T, and what she thinks it needs - starting with training to ensure people who can deal with a complex system stick around, especially since the pay sucks and the state's taking away the benefits that made up for that:

The Herald reports that Highway chief Frank DePaola will take over from Beverly Scott at the embattled MBTA until a permanent general manager is named. Scott said she would resign in April, but DePaola's appointment starts next week.

So it turns out Beverly Scott did drop the mic at her press conference yesterday.

Scott did not specify reasons in her resignation letter, but did praise T workers and said she was proud to have been part of the Patrick administration's transportation team.

She leaves the job in April.

Somerville Voices reports on a meeting at which MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott said the T had to be prepared for the potential loss of money from increasing gas taxes in order to win federal funding for the plan to someday extend the Green Line into Somerville and Medford.

On Tuesday, voters repealed a plan under which gas taxes would increase every year at the inflation rate.

Beverly Scott watches blinking lights

At the height of the storm, the T posted a photo of General Manager Beverly Scott watching the displays at the T's High Street command center.

That was just about when a train at Tufts Medical Center on the Orange Line decided it wanted a change of careers, stranding the same sort of commuters who got stuck when another Orange Line train died at Sullivan Square in the morning commute.

At 5:07, Leigh Montgomery tweeted:

Stuck underground, did not make 1 stop. Between Back Bay & Tufts

Ten minutes later, she reported:

Just arrived at Tufts. We will be walking to N Station from here

Watch video of Beverly Scott kissing MassDOT highway administrator Frank DiPaola on the head as thanks for the money MassDOT will give the T to buy new commuter-rail locomotives.

Head-kissing came at a MassDOT meeting yesterday. MassDot will use a $45-million federal clean-air grant to buy the new, cleaner, more efficient locos - about 80% of their total cost. The T currently has a contract to buy 27 of them, with delivery starting next year, but is looking at buying 13 more - at $5.4 million apiece.

The Orange Line is seriously standing by "due to a coffee spill that needs to be cleaned up." ... At least it made for a nice-smelling train first thing in the morning...

The Globe scores an interview with Beverly Scott, who says she'll be tough but open when she takes over at the T.

UPDATE: File this under: Hello, Sweetheart, Get Me Rewrite. The headline on the online version of the story, which is what set me off, is "New T manager underwent professional counseling in Atlanta," which has a much different tenor than the print headline: "T's pick for chief faced scrutiny."

Read the lead story in the Globe today and you're left with the impression that the Globe is like: OMG, we just hired a crazy lady to run the T!
