Following David Bernstein's lead, the Globe today reports on the mystery Roslindale woman who set up a PAC to run ads supporting Marty Walsh. Turns out the woman couldn't find a voting booth if her life depended on it, yet she's raised lots of money from people she refuses to identify for these "independent" ads.

Kid dressed as water fountain

At Matt O'Malley's annual Halloween party, one kid came as the tri-level water fountain O'Malley got for Jamaica Pond.

You always know an election's getting nasty when campaign signs start getting torn down.

The final televised debate is tonight, 7-8 p.m.

And not just the two or three who actually live in Boston. The Globe reports everybody from Ernie Boch Jr to "members of the board of the conservative Pioneer Institute" are tossing money Connolly's way.

Michael Freedberg doesn't say if he saw that article before he wrote Why John Connolly is the progressive and Marty Walsh isn't:

By adamg - 10/19/13 - 10:50 am

John Connolly is proposing a Roxbury Entrepreneurship Center to help budding small businesses in the area get off the ground - through space for them to start up their businesses, a "Made in Boston" startup capital fund and counseling and meetings with existing entrepreneurs. He says he'd immediately start looking for transit-accessible space in the neighborhood for the center.

Connolly also held a private confab with gangbangers, well, private except for the Globe reporter.

So let's dive right into the numbers from Tuesday: Massterlist provides a map showing which wards Connolly and Walsh won after filtering out the results from the other 10 candidates. Not surprisingly, Walsh was big in Dorchester, Connolly in West Roxbury - but check out how well Walsh did in comparison to Connolly in parts of Roslindale and Hyde Park.

Final (if still unofficial) city and districtwide results. The city has yet to release ward-by-ward numbers, but NorthEndWaterfront.com tallied them for the North End, Beacon Hill and downtown.

Connolly
Walsh

The November elections will pit state Rep. Marty Walsh of Dorchester against City Councilor John Connolly of West Roxbury for the right to succeed Mayor Tom Menino.

City returns show Walsh won the preliminary with a small lead over Connolly.

In the at-large race, voters will get to choose between Pressley, Flaherty, Murphy, Wu, Keogh, Jeff Ross, George and Kelly.

In district races, McCarthy and Sanon will face off in District 5 (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan); Zakim and Nichols in District 8 (Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Fenway, Mission Hill). In District 4, Yancey (who got fewer votes citywide than Althea Garrison), will face Williams. And in District 1, it's LaMattina vs. Gannon.

In Bay Windows, Sue O'Connell and Jeff Coakley endorsed Mike Ross:

A strong mayor needs empathy along with leadership. Ross has consistently and reliably been a leader on LGBT issues—most recently on the challenges facing our community's senior population. As mayor, his experience in both public and private life would positively inform his leadership of the city.

The Globe reports on a forum in Dorchster last night, in which Barros, former head of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, compared the law-enforcement response to the Amy Lord murder with the response to murders in Roxbury.

In this post-Labor Day world, it's no longer sweetness and light and pick-up basketball games on the campaign trail, the Herald warns:

The gloves are coming off in Boston's mayoral race with candidates trading accusations of ideas-poaching and flip-flopping as they head into a red-hot sprint to undercut their opponents and sway undecided voters before the 12-way Sept. 24 preliminary election.

The Bay State Banner says Yancey, Clemons and Wyatt should drop out of the race and help get one of the other minority candidates who actually has a chance get elected:

Sometimes it is heroic to quit. Politicians are competitive, highly motivated and aggressive individuals who will fight to the end. It is unnatural for them to throw in the towel before the political battle is over. However, there is a strategic aspect of politics that just might call for such a maneuver.

Charlotte Golar Richie was endorsed by former state Senator Bill Owens, and former state reps Royal Bolling, Doris Bunte, and Shirley Owens-Hicks.

The Globe reports a bevy of mayoral hopefuls attended a Boston Common rally for higher wages for fast-food workers. The story doesn't mention Mike Ross, but maybe because he protested with the workers earlier in the day

Bill Walczak, who says Suffolk Downs should be turned into an Innovation District instead of a casino, says Harvard should turn its vast tracts of land in Allston into an Innovation District:

I believe the residents of Allston would welcome an opportunity to work with Harvard on plans for an Allston Innovation District. The "enterprise research campus' formerly discussed with the community would provide a critically important complement to the nearby Harvard Innovation Lab and Startup Lab Boston.

A Globe poll finds Connolly and Walsh virtually tied, with more than a third of voters still professing no clue whom to vote for.

Mike Ross is leaving his car in the Boston Globe parking lot this morning so he can spend a couple days getting from one campaign stop to another by the T and his own feet (why the Globe? Why not? Plus, it's sort of near the JFK/UMass T stop, although the Dorchester Reporter lot is a lot closer).
