The Justice Department is out with list of 86 cities across the country where it will be keep a watch for "compliance with federal voting rights laws," including Everett, Malden, Methuen, Quincy and Salem (as well as Fitchburg, Leominster and Lowell). Read more.

Banker & Tradesman reports state environmental officials have given the OK for a $500-million, 700-MW battery-storage facility for energy from offshore wind farms on what is now a series of abandoned oil tanks along the Everett waterfront - the first part of a redevelopment plan by the Davis Cos. that would also include new housing and office space. The Charlestown Neighborhood Council is setting up a Soccer Stadium Committee to ensure Charlestown has some say on the 25,000-seat soccer stadium Robert Kraft wants to build just over the line in Everett, near the casino, the Charlestown Patriot-Bridge reports.

Proposed extension of Silver Line to Everett and Sullivan squares

Proposed extension, via MBTA.

The MBTA and MassDOT said today they want to extend the Silver Line 3, which now terminates in Chelsea, to neighboring Everett and then to the Sullivan Square T stop - where riders will be able to ride a new breed of "high frequency buses" to Kendall Square. Read more.

A Middlesex Superior Court judge has ruled that Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria has such a strong likelihood of winning a libel suit against a local newspaper that he is freezing property belonging to one of the paper's owners and its editor in anticipation of as much of $850,000 in damages. Soon-to-be-former Everett School Superintendent Priya Tahiliani and Deputy Superintendent Kim Tsai today sued Mayor Carlo DeMaria and the School Committee for job discrimination, alleging that a school-committee vote earlier this month to not renew their contracts was the culmination of an effort by DeMaria and his cronies to oust the first two non-White school leaders in the city's history. Light shining on the Everett power plant

Matt Frank spent sunset on the shores of the Mystic in Chelsea today and reports he got some great cloud-filtered sunlight coming down on both the Boston Edison plant that Wynn Resorts just bought next to its casino and the Tobin Bridge. He says he caught the power-plant stream at just the right moment - the light went away almost right after he took the photo.

Storm lets loose over Nahant

Joan was at Nahant Beach this afternon when the storm showed up and just burst right over her head. She managed to get a couple of good shots "just before we grabbed our stuff and made a mad dash for the car."

The editor of the Everett Leader Herald has agreed to provide Mayor Carlo DeMaria with the names and contact info for the confidential sources it said it relied on for articles accusing him of corruption - articles over which DeMaria is now suing the newspaper and the city clerk for defamation. Anthony DiPierro, an Everett city councilor and relative of Mayor Carlo DeMaria, resigned today, after video emerged recently of a Zoom call in which he went full on racist in what was supposed to be a private discussion with other city officials. Read more.

State Police report a man who didn't want to submit to a traffic stop in Revere this morning took off, prompting a chase in which he allegedly smashed into several cruisers, stopped near the Encore casino, then tried to fight his way out of arrest, but failed. More to come.
