Michael Pahre compiles and analyzes the positions of at-large candidates on the issue, which might become a local one should Suffolk Downs become one of the finalists for a casino license (or even just try again to get slots).

Meanwhile, Dan Kennedy writes it's a good thing Jack Welch never got far with his proposal to buy the Globe, since one of his partners was a part owner of Suffolk Downs:

What's not to like? Shmooze with neighbors, then settle down to hear what District 3 and at-large city council candidates have to say, at the Fall Civic Social sponsored by a variety of Dorchester neighborhood groups on Oct. 15, starting at 7 p.m. at Florian Hall, 55 Hallet St.

Michael Pahre posts MP3 files of at-large city-council candidates discussing various issues at a candidates' debate in Brighton last night.

Michael Pahre looks up the latest campaign financial reports for Boston at-large council candidates and finds, among other things, that Michael Flaherty has spent more than any other candidate and yet is sitting on more money than any other candidate. What could he possibly want so much money for, hmm?

Also, John Connolly has figured out how to make it look like he has less money on hand than he really does.

Michael Pahre compiles lists of upcoming debates for at-large candidates and of their Web sites and addresses.

Blue Mass. Groupistas ejected from studio moments before Fifth District congressional debate at the request of the Ogonowski campaign. They're Demmies, he's a GOPer.

Adam Reilly: My quick take is that this makes Ogonowski look bad and NECN look worse:

But maybe there were extenuating circumstances I'm not aware of. ...

The Globe reports today on the results in the Roxbury city-council preliminary election - which was held on Tuesday. The telegraph line to that far-distant region must have gone down again.

Michael Pahre runs the numbers - and shows how the Russian Bloc influenced the race, even without any obvious endorsement from capo Naakh Visoky.

Michael Pahre stares in awe at the depth of the coverage the Globe and Herald provided for this week's Allston/Brighton city-council preliminary.

David Bernstein tries to decipher what happened in Allston/Brighton (Russian bloc still has power?), East Boston (Yo, Menino: Up yours!) and Roxbury (only one woman in the entire city will be on the ballot for city council this year). Oh, and Blue Mass. Group? Whoever they endorse loses (BMG responds).

Jon Keller: Eastie To State Dems: Drop Dead.

If you live in East Boston, Allston, Brighton, Roxbury, you can vote tomorrow. Chris Lovett has links to the Web sites of district city-council candidates in Allston/Brighton and Roxbury (shocker: perennial candidate Althea Garrison, who's running this time against Chuck Turner doesn't have a Web site) and state-rep candidates in East Boston.

Municipally Wasted:

I started this blog because I'm angry. I'm angry because a disturbing disconnect exists between the people of this city, this state, and this country, and the officials less than a majority of them elect. And to clarify, I said "people," not "constituents" or "voters" or "consumers" or even "citizens"—but people. If we, as a whole, are going to consent to be governed—which, as an anarchist I don't think we have to—then we should have as much say as possible in the governing process. But we don't.

Michael Pahre reports on an unusual human billboard during rush hour yesterday at Brighton Center.

By adamg - 9/15/07 - 10:51 am

Michael Pahre surveys the candidates on the issue and its importance in the election:

... You would think that openly gay candidate Tim Schofield would have a lock on the LGBT vote... but not so fast. ...

By adamg - 9/14/07 - 8:39 am

Michael Pahre wonders if Allston/Brighton candidates realize the voting blocs run by Naakh Vysoky and Serge Bologov are actually outnumbered by other groups:

... [I]nstitutional expansion opponents; Asian and Brazilian immigrants; graduate students; catholics; the elderly; parents of public school students; Republicans; small business owners; and so on. There's at least as many votes in each of those blocs as there are at Wallingford Road or Portina Road. ...
