Nick Collins (D-1st Suffolk) unleashed a barrage of invective yesterday against plans by the owner of the Quiet Few tavern in East Boston's Jeffries Point to open a similar tavern at 400 Dorchester St. in South Boston's Andrew Square, calling it a potential hellhole catering to the very sort of losers the neighborhood doesn't need - despite testimony from people in Andrew Square they can't wait for it to open. A Dorchester man was released on personal recognizance - but ordered to attend AA meetings - at his arraignment today on a variety of charges for an incident in South Boston early Saturday in which he allegedly stole a car, fell into a drunken stupor at a traffic light, accelerated when two Boston cops woke him up, then offered them $10,000 to let him go, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Boston Police report they are investigating two recent incidents of indecent assault and battery in the area of Dorchester Street and East Broadway in South Boston.
Indecent assault and battery can include such things as groping and rubbing rather than rape.
Police did not provide additional details.
Around 3:25 p.m., somebody, possibly on a scooter, fired three shots on Dorchester Street in the area of Rogers Street. He didn't hit anybody, but three vehicles got fresh bullet holes.
