Boston Restaurant Talk reports that Mission on Fire, which replaced Sofia Italian Steakhouse, which replaced the Vintage steak place, which replaced Fontaine's and its neon waving chicken, has opened at 1430 VFW Parkway in West Roxbury. It promises "everything from tapas and artisanal pizzas to savory pastas and our signature rotisserie chicken" all with a "bold Latin influence."

Gary's Liquors on VFW Parkway in West Roxbury opened at 10 this morning, but by 8 there was already a line outside, people in folding chairs and sipping their Dunk's as they waited for employees to unlock the doors so they could snap up a bottle or two, or three, of the "special reserve" bourbon for sale today only. The Citizens Bank branch in the Hancock Village mall on VFW Parkway at Independence Drive was robbed around 11:20 a.m., by a man dressed in all black and wearing a black ski mask, about 5'8", who passed a demand note, got some money, then ran across VFW Parkway towards Manthorne Road.
Officers investigating the bank robbery wound up arresting another man they happened to find in the parking lot who was wanted on a warrant unrelated to the robbery.

Windows on the long empty space next to Bruegger's at the strip mall on VFW Parkway are now plastered with signs advertising the imminent arrival of Kwench Juice Cafe, which promises, among other things, fresh raw juices, power juices, fresh raw smoothies, superfood smoothies, wheatgrass and turmeric shots and juice cleanses (to go, we assume), as well as some more solid items, such as salads. A couple of guys from Providence came up to West Roxbury Wednesday night to steal catalytic converters, but they only managed to saw one off before they crashed in the big, scary rotary at West Roxbury and VFW Parkways, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.
