More community center cuts in Boston

As if the changes and cuts to Boston's community-center based daycare and pre-kindergarten programming was not enough, it now appears that some additional critical staffing at some community centers is also being cut.

The large community center "clusters," those centers that were joined at the hip for management purposes (2, 3, and 4 buildings in some instances) are cutting their "assistant cluster administrator" position. While that may sound a tad administratively heavy, these people are often the equivalent of a ship's executive officer of "chief of the boat," and are irreplaceable.

At effected centers this is one of the key operators that maintains community partnerships and works directly with programs and parents, and often represents, 10, 20, or more years of personal experience with the City.

Toward that end, The Roslindale Community Center, one of those centers to be affected, has put together a public forum to discuss this issue with hopes of getting the City of Boston to withdraw these staffing cuts, which in most if not all cases will have a serious negative impact on programming and daily operations.

The public forum will be held Tuesday evening, June 16, 2009 at 6:30 PM, at the Roslindale Community Center.

The center is located at 6 Cummins Highway (corner of Cummins Highway and Washington Street, Roslindale Square). It is accessible via public transit from by the following busses: #14, 30, 34, 34E, 35, 36, 37, 40, 50, 51. Parking si on street or at the Taft Hill Court City parking area off South Street.
