Escape the Heat!
For those of you that will be looking for an escape from the heat this coming weekend, we'd like to invite you up to cooler Cape Ann for the opening program of our seventy-seventh summer season of free outdoor concerts.
Sunday, July 11 at 7:00 P.M. the Rockport Legion Band will present a concert that includes marches (both well-known and obscure), Broadway show music, a Classical overture (Mozart!), and a few surprises.
Come on up, bring a blanket or some chairs and enjoy a small-town New England evening.
For a complete program listing, visit the band page at:

Or take the train
A commuter train from North Station arrives at Rockport station at 6:39 pm on Sundays, leaving just enough time to walk to Back Beach for a 7:00 concert.
(But you'll have to wait until 10:00 to get the train back to Boston.)
Route 128 actually intersects with Route 127
at three locations in Gloucester (Grant Circle, Eastern Avenue, and Main Street). And two of those three intersections have traffic lights.
Perhaps the group's directions should be a bit clearer as to the need to take Route 128 all the way to the end in Gloucester.
Simpler directions
I think that's right. A friend has a house up there, and it's great giving directions: Take 128 north to the stoplight and... (and everyone asks: "where the heck is a stoplight on 128?")
Route 127 - very confusing
Is every major highway on Cape Ann called really called 127, or is there a major error on Google Maps? Google says that both the loop road and the road through the center of Cape Ann (Eastern Ave) are 127.
Google basically has it correct.
Route 127 comes up the eastern coastline into Gloucester from Manchester, does a couple of contortions in the vicinity of Eastern Avenue (which is why it intersects with Route 128 twice), and then continues up to the very tip of Rockport, and then follows the western coastline and dips back down through Gloucester, where it ends at Route 128 at Grant Circle.
And if that isn't confusing enough for people, there is a Route 127A which branches off of Main Street, follows the eastern coast of Gloucester into Rockport, and rejoins Route 127 in downtown Rockport.
For the record - my sister lived in the Lanesville section of Gloucester for almost eight years, so I know the area well. Less than precise directions could easily get somebody unfamilar with this area lost.
Google doesn't know about 127A
On Google maps, Washington Street (the way to Annisquam and Lanesville), Eastern Ave (the direct route through the middle of Cape Ann), and Thatcher Road (the way to Good Harbor Beach and Loblolly Cove) are all called just 127.
Appreciate the clarification.
Next time, I'll double check the map first. SPSF (shouldn't post so fast) strikes again!
