Connolly vote collapses in Hyde Park

Steve Poftak looks at the numbers from Tuesday's election, notices that John Connolly's tally in Hyde Park and the neighboring part of Roslindale dropped more than 1,000 votes from 2009:
What's the explanation here? Well, my best guess would be a certain 60-something Readville resident and civic leader might have been less than fully supportive.
Chris Lovett also looks at Hyde Park's numbers - from 1999, the year of Dapper O'Neil's last hurrah.

Maybe
Maybe we were just disappointed by the example set by his sleazy father taking unemployment while receiving a nice state pension?
Hizzoner took umbrage...
It was no secret to anyone paying attention to the at-large council race that Menino had taken a strong interest in Ayanna Pressley. His endorsement suddenly appeared on her printed material, he held fundraisers for her in Hyde Park and East Boston (advertised on Pressley's website), and generally provided the kind of behind-the-scenes aid that he is famous for giving to his friends on the council. Then along comes John Connolly, on the front page of the Sunday Globe, no less, proclaiming himself the White Knight who will ride in to save Ayanna from certain doom. Menino was PISSED. Connolly's Hyde Park totals reflect just how pissed.
Scary theory
There are 1000 brainless hacks in Hyde Park who vote for whomever Menino tells them to? Yikes- that would be horrendous if it were true.
A campaign about nothing
For a city with a lot on its plate, the campaign was remarkably issues-free.
One might rely on the Boston
One might rely on the Boston Globe to raise issues. However the zombies on the Globe's editorial board only care about the demographics of the candidates, not their agendas. It makes for great editorials on diversity.
