Hey, who pulled the stopper out of the Mother Brook?
There's probably a good reason why the "pond" off Sawmill Lane and Milton Street in Dedham has been allowed to dry up and become a giant field of mud with a rivulet meandering through it. Like maybe the state's planning to clean up all the shopping carts, scooters, computer monitors and other stuff that's been dumped there (anybody know?).
In the meantime, though, parts of it now look more like something out of a region at the beginnings of a prolonged drought (the other side of Sawmill is apparently more fertile - it's full of green plants):
But what looks unattractive to people is apparently desirable to birds - yesterday, I spotted ducks, geese, an egret and a couple of herons on the new mudflats.

Happens every year now. They never lower the gate at the Charles river, so Mother brook above the next mill dam goes dry. Mother brook actually has the right to one third of the Charles river flow, but the state has no interest in that law.
Huh!
I'm used to the other side (behind the mall) going dry; guess I was always so busy marveling at the mud there I never looked on the other side :-).
Dam Repairs
Talked to my friend who owns a condo overlooking the dam in the old mill facility - says there was some talk about doing some repairs to the dam so possibly for the repairs or concerns over its stability? He wasn't sure, but figured that was a good possibility.
Any money down there?
I wonder if there's money or anything else of value in there?
