Looking left, looking right at Occupy Boston
By adamg on Sun, 10/09/2011 - 9:39am
kdrc525 took in Occupy Boston yesterday, including a protest outside the Federal Reserve Bank. As they have since the beginning, protesters and police have maintained good relations - police who patrolled a march through the Back Bay blocked off traffic to let the occupods express their views without worrying about getting run down.

What's with the masked face?
What's with the masked face? He looks like an outlaw to me.

It's highly doubtful that just a regular bandana like that would offer any kind of real protection against an onslaught of mace or pepper spray, which would penetrate right through the fabric of the bandana.

Immature skateboard boy
The masked marauder and his skateboard are having a little fun playing outlaw. How immature can you get?
Large dog and I
hung out down there for a couple of hours yesterday. It was cool to see. I sat next to an 84 year old woman from Brookline who biked (!) down and she thought it was very good to see. I thought there was a very good non judgmental attitude amongst the cops there and one cop that I knew did say to me that he thought first snowfall and they'll all go home.
How many people are there?
I keep trying to get an idea of how many people are participating in this. It seems like no news organization has the courage to do crowd estimates anymore.
Face masks
Typically, the face masks are to hide their identity from the wondering eyes of law enforcement shutterbugs. In other, more confrontational direct actions, this has been a worthwhile tactic. I've certainly been in protest situations where there were tons of cops in uniform and plain clothes taking lots of photos of everyone involved.
That being said, I'm pretty sure BPD doesn't really care who is protesting. I assume that kid doesn't realize that there's really no reason (yet) to hide his identity.
In NYC, the police arrested
In NYC, the police arrested anyone wearing a mask. It's against the law there to wear a mask at a gathering other than a masquerade. It's probably as an old anti-KKK law.
Tommy gets tough
According to the Herald the Mayor has had just about enough of the protestors, the protestors response "bring it on"
The difference between the protestors and the political leadors of the city is the protestors like thge boys scouts have adults in charge.
The Mayor has allowed them to
The Mayor has allowed them to do their protesting without a permit. As opposed to everyone else, who has to have a permit or be locked up.
Protesting against tyranny is
Protesting against tyranny is the backbone of this country, and requiring a PERMIT for it is disgusting and unpatriotic. I can't tell if you agree with the policy, NotWhitey, but judging by your past hatred of anything other than the status quo, I'd guess that you are on the side of "authority", regardless of its corrupt nature.
You're a dinosaur. You hate the way the world is changing. I'm sorry, but you have to deal with it. Unless you die first, I guess. How old are you?
