Even with the slow zones ended, T still not completely mended

The MBTA reported signal problems near Broadway this morning meant rush-hour delays of up to a half hour on the Red Line. And as Your Favorite Deer's Favorite Deer reported, an impromptu homage to the Clash at Park Street:
Red Line train to Ashmont kicked passengers off at Park Street, said it was turning back to Alewife, then proceeded in the wrong direction as employees on platform yelled “STOP THE TRAIN” - person on intercom telling conductor "move your train"

Signal Problems?
Are there any Uhubbers out there that understand what that really means?
Are these "problems" mechanical, electronic, or what? And why do these problems last all day like the Alewife problem a few days ago, and the Broadway problem today? Do they have to replace the signals?
Thanks in advance.
No more slow zones just "slower zones"
For anyone keeping score, the signal problems were not fixed during the day and trains were still standing for up to a half an hour at Broadway, Andrew, JFK during evening rush hour and also at 10pm as I'm posting this.
I'll see you and raise you, Adam "Topper" Gaffin
