BPL apps it up
By adamg on Sat, 08/10/2013 - 12:28pm
The BPL mobile app (available for iOS and Android devices) lets users search the catalog, put holds on books, rate them and then call a library. There's also a Web version for users of other mobile devices (hey there, BlackBerry) which offers much of the same functionality.

If their mobile apps...
...are as well done as their website, they'll be great. Credit where it's due -- the BPL has done a splendid job tech-wise!

Does this mean I don't have to use the Overdrive app anymore?
There's an app called Overdrive that's been around for a few years called Overdrive that lets you browse and borrow from any library for which you have a card and participates in the program. It's clunky and unweidly. If I can borrow books through this app, I'll be as happy as a little girl on who has just seen a rainbow while riding on a unicorn.

I read the letter from the Free Software Foundation
and need a translation. I don't know that much about audiobook format and the letter is in formal language that I don't quite get. Are you saying that audiobooks are in a proprietary format that can't be used by some patrons?
I'm genuinely asking for more information. I am not a fan of Overdrive and I'm happy their stranglehold on ebook (in my case, Kindle) lending is over but I want to know more about this other issue.

Ooh!
They should add a "hear something, say something" app for reporting those times when people don't know how to STFU in the library and the librarian does nothing about it.
