The Globe gets its hands on a report that kind of makes the first-term Suffolk County register of probate look like the boss from hell:
Patricia Campatelli often worked only 15 hours a week at her $122,500-a-year job as Suffolk County register of probate, and she spent much of that time taking “numerous smoking breaks, scratching lottery tickets, looking at East Boston real estate on the Internet, and filling out puzzles,” according to employees quoted in a confidential report obtained by the Globe.
And let's not forget the incident that led to the report, in which she allegedly punched an underling.

Why have a costly election for an office which this woman has obviously demonstrated is nonessential? GET RID OF THE POSITION ALREADY!

Looking at East Boston real estate on line, everyone wants to buy cheap and sell high in East Boston, so they have enough money to buy real estate in Saugus or if they make more money on their East Boston real estate deal they can buy in Lynnfield and mix in with all the knucklehead Cheesy people who try to impress others with their Cadillacs and Lexus's and their excess material north shore lifestyle..

but the lack of any coherent, forceful opposition to the Democratic politics are definitely not good for regional government in the greater Boston. Ideally there'd be an alternative party which was interested in good government vs. patronage, pension maximizing, etc... to give us an alternative to hacks like this woman, Arroyo Sr., etc... I can't see that being the GOP though.

And even when they do get votes on the promises of lower taxes or more jobs, the first thing they do in office is move to restrict abortion. You might get away with that in rural areas with plenty of low-information, low-education voters, but it won't fly here (or pretty much any other major US city).

That's right, she was not appointed. She was not a part of the "old boys" network. She took out papers, got on the ballot, won the primary (I will admit it, I voted for her) and presto, she is the Register of Probate.
Yes, the job should be appointed, just like how John O'Brien was appointed Probation Commissioner. More importantly, people (myself included, apparently) should take elections more seriously, learn about the candidates, and vote for the best person.
In my defense, I was curious about 2 East Boston people running for the job, assumed her opponent was a career politico, and voted for the "other guy." Perhaps she is being hatcheted by the status quo right now, but I do feel bad for voting the way I did.
Again, she won, so there have to be others who voted for her. Over 15,000 others.
