Casey Overpass continues to come down
By adamg on Fri, 06/19/2015 - 7:21pm
Karen Springer is your host for this episode of "Today in the Demise of the Casey Overpass."
Ed. note: It's too bad the supports weren't just a bit closer together - or taller. Because it would just be super amazing to take off just the roadway, then have a bulldozer or something push the very first/last one and watch them all tumble like dominoes.

Or, maybe closer to water
So a giant aquatic dinosaur could jump out and munch them.
Olympics venue
Could have pole vaulted over the remaining supports.
Demonstration sport?
Parkour 2024?
Well below grade
Those supports extend well below grade by another 100 feet or so. The actual level of the street there when the Casey Overpass was originally built is about that of the grade at Hyde Park Ave and Tower Street, or over at Washington Street by the MBTA yard. The "hump" in the road that is there now was created in the mid-80s when the current traffic configuration (which was supposed to fix all traffic for time immemorial) was built. The "hump" was the cheap way out of how they built it back then. Do go down another 50 or so feet, then at least another 20 or 30 for where the actual base is on all of them.
You can see the bottom of a couple from the Orange Line platform. That is about the original grade and they go down from there even more.
Of course, MassDOT is not going to even try to remove them all the way down.
They will have to be VERY CAREFUL taking down the ones that are right at the Orange Line since they cemented the subway walls and roof to the Casey's support columns. Any jack hammering of those at street level could crack the ceiling and walls of the subway if they are not careful.
Wear a hard hat..
How were the roads configured
How were the roads configured from when the overpass went up until the 80s rebuild?
About this rain...
at least the crazy downpour will keep the demolition dust down.
I knew it was going to feel very different when the bridge was fully down, but is anybody else surprised at the sense of space that is already developing since have they started taking the overpass down?
