Harvard commencement has a peal

The Harvard Gazette tells the story of some of the church bells across Cambridge that will be rung this morning after Harvard commencement.

The bells will begin to ring at 11:30 a.m., just after the sheriff of Middlesex County declares the Commencement Exercises adjourned. They will ring for approximately 15 minutes.

They know some of us work in cambridge right?

Not that any of us are given the choice

Perfect! Bells pealing followed shortly by a fly-by of fighter jets.

Are the bells really that loud that 15 minutes is going to cause you a huge hassle?

I hear them daily at the top of every hour in the Fenway

happens every year. I wish I was close enough to hear it. My college did something similar and I found it lovely, personally.

Must be rough for you... the sound of bells for 15 minutes once per year.

What's really annoying is the church bell in Harvard Yard, which rings for 10 minutes at 7:45 every day.

How dare they inconvenience us!! Sure they went to school for four years and made a huge personal and financial sacrifice... But what about me! The audacity to ring a bell during business hours.

Love the sound of bells. Beautiful.

Strange that they would pre-announce it.
