Jed Hresko marveled at the time somebody put into clearing out a parking space for this bicycle on Columbus Avenue in the South End last night.

I tsk everytime I see a bicycle left out in the snow and covered completely in it. What a lack of care. Good to know there is a free rack available somewhere.
do you "tsk" every time you see a car completely covered in snow
Seriously, what is the point of this comment?
Typically,
a cars drivetrain isn't completely exposed to the elements. A bicycles is; getting frozen in a chunk of snow isn't exactly good for it.

People should take care of their velocipedes nd it's good to see someone cared enough to clean out a spot for one.
I don't care about cars covered in snow because there's no exposed parts that can easily rust, fail or propose a safety hazard from neglect of more than a few days
Here's the bike after the big melt...

Had this thought while riding the 57 down Comm Ave.
What if we encouraged drivers to shovel out these spots and then let them use the car as a space saver until they need to move on elsewhere?
Like the cars that are double parked now, half in the lane and half in the partially cleared parking spot. Barely any were in actual parking spots and plenty had just sort of pulled up on the snow banks.
Instead we could have these people clear out the spot, it frees up traffic, they have a place to park for awhile AND the city benefits from having more parking spaces cleared by citizens for free!
