First freezeover of the season
By adamg on Mon, 01/04/2016 - 12:08pm
Daniel Guzman went for a walk in Allandale Woods this morning. Look for more freezing tonight, what with the NWS predicting a low of 9 in greater Roslindale. Guzman cautions:
Cracks under a dog's paw, so no skating just yet.

pond hockey
Do people actually skate on this pond? I'd love to know what ponds people usually skate on in Boston/brookline/Cambridge/Somerville
Behind
Westie High. The pond in the picture contains running water and never fully freezes. You can skate on it, you just have to avoid two sections.
Oh yea you can skate on it.
There was another pond hidden in the woods on the Brookline/Newton line that we used to skate at all the time too (and Larz Anderson used to let you skate as well).

Lost Pond in Chestnut Hill, I don't know how to copy/paste google maps links but that's it above.
Irresponsible owner.
That dog be on a leash.
Every year
I predict sometime this week, a dog will go into an iced-over pond, and the owner will go after it.
Yes, and the fire department
Yes, and the fire department will be called, risking a human's life wading out in forzen waters, etc.
The Fire Department Doesn't Judge
They have the gear, and they know that if people know they will get the dog, they don't have to haul out the people.
My ff friend tells me that they are expected to practice these rescues anyway, so it just becomes another practice.
