Hit and run in Roslindale Square; pedestrian taken to hospital

A pedestrian was taken away in an ambulance after a crash around 11:30 a.m. at Cummins Highway and Lindall Street.
The injuries were described as not life threatening.
Police are looking for a black Honda SUV with damage on the front passenger side. The driver of the SUV was described as a light-skinned Hispanic man, about 5'7" with a thin build and a light mustache.
The intersection of Washington Street and Cummins Highway was shut for the investigation and to let the ambulance in.

Boston and MA as a state
Boston and MA as a state needs to start taking pedestrian safety seriously. I was almost run over by a driver playing with their cell phone while I crossed the street, in the crosswalk, in Cambridge. She didn't even slow down, never even saw me. As vehicles have gotten to be larger and more like living rooms, the state has not responded by increasing enforcement of existing traffic laws, and anytime a driver hits someone through their negligence, its called an accident and little if nothing if done. Stop signs need to be enforced with tickets, as well as red lights (even if it has only been red a little bit), speed limits need to be lowered in residential areas or those with lots of pedestrians and enforced.

Boylston is terrible with U-turn UBER drivers. Drivers often ignore the red lights at Ipswich and Boylston.

There are no crosswalks at that intersection, which is odd since the Sumner School is a block away.
Coming nearby
The traffic dept is cautious about where and how many cross walks and signals are installed. There is a process.
That said, Cummins at Florence now has traffic signals installed. They have not been activated as yet (bagged) but are in place. I'd expect them to be activated for the September school year start.

And much like yourself, I dread hitting that intersection from Florence Street. I was walking by this morning and noticed how Florence Street traffic, at rush hour, basically has to rely on the kindness of strangers to get anywhere.
But anyhow, this is about pedestrians. The Florence Street intersection is nicely crosswalked, and the drivers are typically good. I don't know what happened yesterday, but I do not like that drivers leave the scene of an accident. You gotta stay. It's the law. Heck, you are supposed to report hitting a dog, so a human should be up there, too.

The recently passed municipal modernization bill (which is now before the governor) gives cities/towns the ability to set 25mph speed limit in thickly settled areas (Sec 193), and create 20mph safety zones (Sec 194).
