Chinese street food/out-of-world breakfast place in Roslindale shutting down

Chris Lin, who opened Seven Star Street Bistro on Belgrade Avenue with his wife Michelle six years ago, posts today that they're closing the restaurant down.

Seven Star brought a different style of Chinese food to the neighborhood than the traditional takeout places and later opened the space for ramen nights and the Astro Diner for breakfast. Earlier this year, it was the first restaurant in Boston to get a BYOB license.

Lin writes:

Running this restaurant and having her by my side and now raising our two children has created an unbreakable bond. Ultimately we feel we have given everything we have inside of us to Roslindale and greater Boston. Not a moment has gone by where we have not tried to serve our patrons and friends to the best of our ability. Our goal from day one was quality food at all costs. Furthermore it was one of the greatest honors to work side by side with my Father Joseph. He is a man I admire has lived a life of service to others without asking for anything in return. He took the time to show me his craft and for us to bond over our love of food and pleasing others. I took a sharp turn from a career in San Francisco, to return to Boston to be with family, and eventually reunite with my Father in the kitchen at my re-iteration of Seven Star Mandarin House. A dream come true. I can walk away knowing I left it all on the cutting board. Excited for our next adventure, continuing my personal adventure, and continuing to make great food!

myself to no hot and sour soup and pork Thai basil until September, but this is bad news indeed.

Good luck to Chris and Michelle.

I will be very sad to see them go, but I had a bad feeling that this would happen after they did the build out for the sit down restaurant, it took a year to get all the permits, and then they sold their liquor license. It seemed like they had an amazing takeout business going and then took a risk by expanding into sit down, only to have it go horribly wrong. If they choose to open another sit down restaurant, hopefully they will consider Roslindale again, as the demand is obviously there. That said, I would recommend it be closer to the Square/Village or sticking with takeout.

The Lin family have given so much to the Roslindale community, and are such great neighbors to us all. Wishing them all the best in future endeavors.

Their food was better than the other Chinese offerings in the area. Calling for a takeout order usually meant that you really had no idea what the fate of this order would be. 1)They (at least in the beginning) would not answer the phone, or put you on hold to maybe return. 2) Times would vary from 40 min to 90 min. 3) really weird business hours.
I wish this place did better. Their food was far better than the other 6 options within a mile. But sometimes you are hungry..and just want to eat.

It's a small restaurant in a not so vibrant location. I can't imagine why they didn't do delivery.

I always wanted to go to Seven Star but when I felt like Chinese food, it was always easier to just call Hong Kong 888 and have them deliver it.

I am SO going to miss this place! So convenient, excellent food, nice folks. I'm beyond sad, but I wish them well. I will cross my fingers that another nice restaurant will take its place SOON!
