Batcycle gets a ticket in Fort Point

A roving UHub photographer spotted this Batcycle with a fresh Boston parking ticket on Summer Street in Fort Point today.

a couple of nights ago, it also has a garish array of flashing, multi-colored LEDs that make it look like neon-lit Times Square on wheels. The driver poked along at about 5mph, waving to all the pedestrians gawking at his WTF spectacle of a three-wheeler. Bizarre.

Are flashing lights allowed on a street vehicle, besides official ones like turn signals and yellow warning lights on tow/utility trucks? I'm pretty sure you can't have any blue light on your car.

It's called a reverse trike. 2 wheels up front, 1 in the back.

You have to pass a motorcycle test, but you can do that in a reverse trike. When you do, you get a motorcycle license with a J restriction that limits you to 3-wheeled vehicles only on that license (no testing on this then legally driving a motorcycle basically). If you test on a motorcycle and get an unrestricted motorcycle license, you can drive your reverse trike legally afterwards too.

Although these are marketed to the Moto community.. Many of these slingshot riders think they are motorcyclists (they are not) and even try to join various moto rides. Sometimes it results in a dust up, like in CT for acharity ride. When these slingshot owners wanted to mingle in with the Bikes and Trikes, the event organizer made them ride in the back for safety reasons. Slingshot-ers were none to pleased.

I'm originally from SF and I can't tell you how many times I'd get stuck behind those things when commuting home or running errands on the weekends. They're incredibly unsafe (they're very difficult to see because they sit so low to the ground) and can't get up to reasonable road speed so they back up traffic and make more impatient drivers do dumb things.

The "reverse trikes" are the size of small sports cars, with even less room for groceries and no top when it rains.

That is a Polaris Slingshot. Yes, it's a 3-wheeler, which only requires a motorcycle license in MA but licensing requirements for autocycles vary by state. IIRC, the owner lives in East Cambridge and I've never seen it doing anything but trundling along busy city streets at pedestrian speeds.
