Jamaica Pond used to have a few more swans than it does today

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy shows us a typical Jamaica Pond scene in 1910.

My mother has this
As an original post card, when the pond attracted lots of people during the summer.
Well, no wonder
everything's gone to hell since 1923. Zeus (who still has a soft spot for Leda, and thus identifies strongly with swans) does not like being denied his tribute.
Feeding small children to swans outlawed.
But feeding swans to small children continued at the nearby "Mrs. Hannigan's Home for Unfortunate Children" until the mid '70s.

Or maybe the swans turned black, now identify as geese and moved closer to the fens to be closer to the Red Sox!
If it's swans you want...
Try Farm Pond in Framingham north of the train station. I counted 50 one day last year. About 25 three weeks ago.
