$35 million. What does a tiny drawbridge cost?

A replacement drawbridge is probably $150+ million. It's not a small road or a "tiny" drawbridge.
The $35 million is a drop in the bucket.
But yeah, I agree. Making Wynn or another sleazy business cover the full replacement costs of the bridge would have been a more fitting punishment over a token payout.
$150m for a private yacht club? Put in a fixed bridge
Or just make a taller bridge and tell the sailboat owners they've got to go elsewhere.
Sorry but there's lot of places to put your boat in greater Dorchester.

The yacht club predates the road, so they have the right of navigation.
Of course, the state could buy out the yacht club.

I'm not saying the yacht club wouldn't have some rights, just that in the overall scheme of things, that's the one of last areas we should be spending infrastructure money on given the thousands of other boat slips around the metro area.

Some day the bridge will indeed need replacement. be an interesting discussion of tax dollars paying for a drawbridge that's only needed for private benefit....

The Alford Drawbridge was "fixed", then "fixed" again, then "fixed" again. Baker's road repair fails are up their with its Positive Train Control (PTC) application fails.

That bridge was rebuilt, took two years (2001-2003), so everyone screaming about replacement costs and who's going to pay for it, can calm down already.
It's mechanical. Mechanical things get stuck sometimes.
