The role of the Silber Footbridge today is played by the condo building where James's Gate used to be in Jamaica Plain
A bit of trucking excitement enlivened a normally quiet stretch of South Street in Jamaica Plain at lunch time today when the driver of an 18-wheeler thought it would be a good idea to turn onto McBride Street only to learn it wasn't.
Once, when the corner was occupied by the parking lot and patio for James's Gate, he might have made it, but those are long gone, replaced with one of those trailer-piercing condo buildings that are all the rage in JP.
Mike, who forwarded the photo of the resulting trailer hole, wonders:
Driver must have been using some janky-ass GPS, because real trucking GPS wouldn't have sent him into this neighborhood, let alone down this street.

That particular shot was courtesy of a neighbor.
Big Lots trailer damaged
Are there any additional photos of the trailer or cab? If so please email these to my attention at [email protected]. Please reference the subject line as Boston Trailer.
Thank you.
Serves them right for sending
Serves them right for sending an 18 wheeler into this neighborhood in the first place.
You say this like the truck
You say this like the truck driver was trying to gain some type of unfair benefit by entering the neighborhood.
This is bad for everyone involved, especially the truck. Nobody would have made this mistake if they knew in advance what these streets were like. We should be thinking about how to prevent this going forward, rather than saying "serves them right".
Step One:
Step One: Don't use smartphones or consumer-grade GPS when driving a big rig.
Step two: Don't use big rigs
Step two: Don't use big rigs to deliver things to urban neighborhoods.
Thankful nobody was hurt.

Not looking closely
The back of the truck looks the words written upon it are "Big [Id]iots"
WHERE was he going?
The only Big Lots around are in Revere, Ashland and Lynn. McBride Street (nor even South Street) are not along the route connecting those stores.
Big Lost
Amiright?
Any damage to the buildilng?
Three-deckers are a bit less resilient than concrete footbridges.
But still more reslilent
than aluminum clad OSB board, as evidenced by the damage to the trailer.
Cosmetic only, as far as I can tell
