New Balance files plans for 175-room hotel in Boston Landing complex
New Balance has filed formal plans for a 175-room hotel at its Boston Landing development along Guest Street in Brighton.
The company had earlier said it would include a hotel in the complex; a "notice of project change" filed with the BPDA last week provides details on just what the hotel will look like.
The company is proposing no on-site parking for the hotel, but says guests will be able to park in an existing Boston Landing garage nearby. The hotel would be the closest Boston Landing building to the current Stop & Shop lot - whose owners are planning their own massive redevelopment.
Conceptually, the Hotel Project has been designed to reflect both its context and its intended use. The building’s facades are organized in a rhythmic pattern derived from the neighboring buildings but expressed in a contemporary manner to emphasize the movement and activation that the Boston Landing development has created. Within this cadence, the design is intended to suggest a more contemporary look. By both “fitting in and standing out”, the Hotel Project will be another step in defining the Guest Street corridor.

This is good
When I have any family come visit me (in Brighton) they end up having to stay in, like, Saugus or Framingham in order to get an affordable room. Until a few hotels went up in Watertown recently, there's been nothing that combines affordability and quality anywhere west of Fenway. Everything is either downtown (absurdly expensive) or reasonably priced (and distant). No in-between.
Affordable?
What makes you think this hotel will be any cheaper than others in Boston or at least the nearby Doubletree.

Waltham is closer than Framingham or Saugus.
Sometimes there are deals in Cambridge, or the hotel over the Pike in Newton.
What about the two former Days Inns on Soldiers Field Road?

What the hell do you think was the number one most common item in an apartment in Allston up until a few years ago?
This is an homage.

First of all, it appears Davis has been out in the ozone after his rendezvous with Mother's Husband.
His gears have shifted and he fancies himself a mogul with a varied portfolio of brands.
Meanwhile, NB has grown too big way too fast and it's beginning to show internally with duties passed off to relatives and interns who's only experience is knowing the family.
The wax is melting.
no on-site parking
Always a good idea.
Maybe no new parking?
In fairness, it is part of a larger complex that does include parking structures. Given that those are reserved for office staff during the day, it will be interesting to see how they swing this.
Many developments can be done with little/no parking, a hotel seems ill-advised though.
