Exploding fireball streaks across sky

Reports are coming in from across the Boston area of a large fireball up in the sky around 9:15 p.m. or so.

People in Connecticut and Maine reported it too, with some saying it was more than just a streak; it was an explosion, too.

But: Was it a meteor or a Chinese rocket on a date with destiny - and the upper atmosphere?

Alex reports:

I just witnessed a giant meteor explode in the sky with bright white and green/blue lights here in Massachusetts. One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen!

My computer desk and window faces due south in Newton and I happened to see a streak and flash right above my monitor. It was so very cool! I have never seen a fireball before, just regular old meteors.

I just had eye surgery. Let me tell you, sitting in bed, room dark, third floor next to window, listening to podcast. I was all messed up and fucked up with worry when I thought the flashing light was a damn complication with the surgery.
