No more trains at Green Street

The sign at Green Street says it all.

Kristin MacDougall got off the last train into Forest Hills tonight and reports that the departure board immediately lit up with "No train service" and then The Voice announced over the PA: "This station is closed."

Perhaps appropriately, that last train was one of the 1980s rolling rec rooms with the wood paneling rather than one of the shiny new bing-bing-bing-bing jobs:

And like in the old days, there was a long line of cabs outside the station waiting for rides, MacDougall says:

She adds that none of the people she talked to on the train believes for a second that service will resume as promised at 5 a.m. on Sept. 19.

They are medical flights. I look at FlightRadar24 whenever I hear one overhead to identify it. Great app.

Is that service will resume on 9/19 on weekdays, but work will continue on weekends for an indefinite time.

My guess is they accomplish 1/3 of what was planned. The 5 years of weekend work they claimed to eliminate with the shutdown will remains on the books.

I'm in favor of full closures for extensive maintenance but skeptical they could gather the supplies and personnel needed within the past two weeks.

Two weeks after this is over, I believe that the track and signalling with be 100% state of good repair.

That said, if they decide to go a year or two without any weekend closures, we'll be back to 5 year's worth of work to get done and the resulting chaos. They were good with getting work done from 2015 to 2019, then it became less of a thing to do. No matter how longer my commute will be for 19 working days, that has to be seen against the 2 years (we'll say 300 commutes) of slow orders adding probably 5 to 10 minutes to my commute.

The big question is if they have everything they need for the project already in Boston, employees included.

It's possible they actually only need 2 weeks for the job but planned for 4 to account for unforeseen complications.

I think it will reopen on time, but it will only be a matter of weeks before a new speed restriction is put in place on a section of track that didn't get touched during the surge. It's really only a small portion of the southern section from Back Bay to Forest Hills that is going to get touched, most of the work is north of Back Bay.

I think they will tackle any track issues during this month. But the bigger concern is the age of the cars/ if the new cars work correctly and the issue at the Haymarket garage, those issue will be the biggest problem. I only hope that when they reopen those things won't slow everything down.

I have two excuses that will cause the delay in reopening the O on time. Do we really think they have all the materials on hand to now to complete the job? Supply chain will be brought up a few times. The back up excuse for delays will be “the problems are bigger than we thought” and will require more time.

If they couldn't source the supplies, they'd have the excuse to give to the feds as to why they should have been able to just do the planned north side shutdown and get to the crossovers whenever.

"Bing bing bing bing" I assume refers to the constant beeping on the new trains whenever the doors open LMAO. It's so irritating by my second trip on the new trains I was already sick of it. Nothing beats the soft lighting and wood paneling of the old trains, not to mention the upholstery. Crazy you spend more money and get a worse product

I too find those bing bing bing bings annoying however accessibility improvements are far more important than any slight discomfort for those of us who don't need them (yet).
