311 complaint of the day: Rat hunting in Allston

A concerned resident filed a 311 report early this morning about the situation along Kelton Street between Comm. Ave. and Allston Street:
People using airsoft guns to hunt rats and shooting around cars and apartment windows.

I was walking my Dog and saw 3 big rats walking slowly like they were taking an evening stroll, no fear at all, A few people with air rifles would be welcomed

Why would they shoot my dog?
Do you think they were out hunting any animal they could find? Or was it just nasty disease carrying city rats
It seems obvious to me.
Do you think people shooting guns in public parks only ever hit their intended targets?
Hunting animals for food is acceptable.

Rat Eradication is Sadism?
There is no evidence to suggest that these are sadists who are deliberately tormenting the animals. Do you think that people who set snap traps or put out rat poison are also sadists?
How do you feel about rat borne illnesses?
Shooting vermin with air-rifles may very well be illegal/unsafe, in which case people shouldn't be doing it. But it seems no more cruel than other methods of rat eradication.
Calling the shooters sadists and suggesting that they eat the corpses sort of devalues whatever argument you thought you were making.

The poisons I don't agree with though. Those rats have been eaten by other animals and been poisoned. The use of baits/poisons really needs to stop.

Yes, rat poisoning, which is ineffective anyway, needs to stop for so many reasons.
Lead isn't the only metal
Copper is widely used in the ammunition industry. Mauviel has been making copper cookware for decades, and has yet to kill anyone from copper poisoning.

…. rat eradication for some kind of justifiable reason. Nor would that mean sadism wasn’t also involved.
I’m far more concerned about communicable diseases between humans and humans than between rats and humans. And about people shooting guns in Boston neighborhoods.
