Thats annoying. When businesses put sandwich boards on narrow sidewalks I make sure to move them out of the way. People have a right to an unobstructed sidewalk.

often right in the curb cut or sidewalk corner or somewhere similarly obnoxious.

Perhaps it's best to not just relocate them out of the way of foot traffic but also point them in a different direction. People should get a good tour of the neighborhood before deciding whether to buy!

I'm sure your neighbors appreciate that, when it was their realtor and not themselves who placed the sign.

Privateering public property? They should be.

The city has historically been pretty spineless on this topic

"Why not simply go around through it?"

there's rush hour on sidewalks too. it's taking up half the sidewalk, which would make people walking closest to the building have to veer out into the path of people walking in the opposite direction closest to the street. They won't move or will end up in the street - not safe at all at those times. Sounds minor until it happens over and over again every morning and evening as people go to and from work (Menton & Sweetgreens on Congress were both bad offenders of this with the sandwich board). Sidewalks are narrow enough without blocking them unnecessarily. This flag would be ok a few feet higher. Other businesses manage to advertise themselves without blocking the sidewalk. Annoying if you're not pushing/pulling something let alone having to move around pedestrians with a burden (baby carriage, etc), or with snow on the ground or in a wheelchair. This is something very much avoidable. Reason why signage requires a permit (I can't see this meeting current standards).

Nevermind failing all accessibility requirements. Good luck warning a blind person the flag is about to hit them in the face.

It was a joke (subtle sure) about what people say when a post about blocked bike lanes is made.

Employers love seeing that.

But there would be additional pleasure in relocating the entire flag+pole to, I don't know, a trash can or a shrub somewhere else.

It won't take long before someone just rips down the flag when they inadvertently walk into it and get annoyed. A strong tug is all it would take.

Magoo was having tummy troubles last night so magoo took some miralax to try and get all the yuckies out. Magoo thought Magoo was good this morning but uh oh Magoo was not. When Magoo was near the sign Magoo had to duck into an alley for an oopsies. Magoo knew it was going to be messy so Magoo borrowed this flag. This flag now looks like Brown University’s flag because said flag is now brown. Magoo.

Whining about whining!

But don't worry, as a Boston resident (you are a Boston resident, right?) you are truly blessed. While other places in the country have news deserts, you have an amazing array of other news sites you can go to that will let you read local news to your heart's content without once having to worry about running across a 311 complaint.

Don't worry. Restaurants don't seem to last like they used to since Covid.
