Critical JP pickleball shortage eased with opening of new courts at English High

Jamaica Plain News lobs the story over the net: Three new pickleball courts are now available at English High School, possibly ending the crisis at the South Street courts, which had seen pickleballers take over space from both tennis and basketball players.

But I predict pickle ball will be out of fashion by next year.

And I was right about the other new flash-in-the-pan sports of football and basketball. /S

I don't see pickleball as being any better or worse than any other sport and I don't see anything wrong with the city providing more courts for something that's in-demand. Of all the things Boston spends money on, this has a huge enjoyment-to-cost ratio. Few public things get so much use and enjoyment for such little money.

It's certainly louder.

And most pickleball courts are created by taking over other facilities.

I was just at a park in Portsmouth. They had built separate tennis and pickleball courts. No sharing, no fighting. Just the stately classy traditional pleasing smoks of fuzzy tennis balls and the annoying flash-in-the-pan trendy clacking of the plastic pickle balls.

I never said that English got it wrong.

Make notes on your phone, not comments here. See?

According to what science has taught us about the exercise. Cardio, do example, is walking, running, cycling etc. done for the purpose of strengthening the heart muscle.

Competitive sports are physical activity that serve a different purpose and lead to injuries. Especially when played on hard surfaces. No more exercise than housework or walking a dog or snow shoveling.

So I made another comment here. Are you going to break my knee caps now with your sports equipment?

The Running, Walking, and Stretching course was removed from Norfolk Park (1980's fitness trend). The clay tennis court and one of the cement courts were removed from Norfolk Park (19th century to present fitness trend) there is one cement court there now. Trends come and they go. Not having had to listen to a pickleball game in progress I wish the current players well.

Anyone know why handball never really caught on in Boston; All you need is a ball and a wall?

Running is healthy and "competitive sports" lead to injuries? Like running doesn't lead to injuries?

No more exercise than housework or walking a dog or snow shoveling.

Mmhmm. Never played tennis, I see.

So not kidding. There are many ways to run safely, according to the latest science. Also what I learned from the program.

Go back to one of your family's multiple houses. Your mom might feed you.

There are a lot of other people in that city.

Some of them like pickleball and organize to play it.

Some like beer gardens and night life.

Some have dogs and lobby for dog parks.

All have as much to say about what goes on as you do - but you have this certain belief that you are somehow culturally superior and can dictate what is and isn't of value to your fellow residents. Then you greenwash it with lorax nimby flair.

I don't make a lot of noise and I don't like noise much either. I understand that noise is a feature of where I live and I'm likely to move to a less noisy place soon now that I don't need this much house and don't need or use a lot of the things that make city life convenient or to commute 5x a week. I have long understood that disliking noise is a "me" problem with urban places - I don't bitch about pickleball at the nearby park making noise or the three drummers in the neighborhood or the high school band practices when those make people I know happy.
