Bay State Banner publisher gets testy when asked why he didn't endorse anybody for mayor

Mel Miller says only fools would question his decision not to endorse, in reply to a question from Adam Reilly about the impression it had anything to do with that $200,000 loan Tom Menino got for him.

If I gave $300,000 to the Globe, I think I can get them to not endorce Menino. They have as much independence and integrity.
Disappointing
The Banner's April editorial indictment of the Menino Administration, written from the standpoint of the city's black community, was sharp, unambiguous, and fact specific. To go from that to saying nothing about the mayoral race is, well, telling. Hopefully the paper will rediscover its voice for the run-off.

Leaving aside the question of whether one can buy one's soul _back_-- which I highly doubt-- why, David, do you hope the paper can "rediscover" its voice? What are the potential positive outcomes of this?
