Redbox, Netflix knock out Blockbuster in West Roxbury
By adamg on Thu, 10/08/2009 - 5:47pm
The credits have rolled for the Centre Street Blockbuster - although there's now a cheery note on the front door advising former customers to put their old movies through the slot if they don't want to hear from a collection agency.
In other Centre Street news, it's a bit of a shame the West Roxbury BPL branch couldn't have opened before cool weather after some recent renovations - because the first thing that hits you now when you enter is the smell of paint, and not in a good way.

That's funny, I thought
That's funny, I thought terrible customer service, judgemental stocking policy, and awful pricing is what killed them...
Library phone-in customers shouldn't be 1st
Yeah~my pet peeve is having the WR library employee make you wait while she/he takes a lengthy phone call...the caller should be put on hold until the live bodies are attended to! :-)
Porter Square Blockbuster closed this summer
as noted here. Central Square one remains open, but I wonder for how much longer.
West Roxbury BPL
Is this a good place to study and hang out? I've never been in this branch before. The JP BPL on Centre St. is small and overrun with noise which makes it unpleasant. I like the Roslindale BPL but again, small and any noise carries all over the library. The new Mattapan BPL is absolutely stunning.

It's a quiet place
So in that sense, yeah, good for studying in. Upstairs, you have your choice of chairs at tables and a couple of comfy living-room type chairs.
I haven't spent much time in the Hyde Park branch, but from what I've seen, seems cool - half will make you think you've walked into 1899, half a sleek new glass addition.
