They can be rather congenial in their interactions, so long as you understand that one basic rule. I've even accidentally startled one before, and she just sauntered away calmly as if I had bumped her in a hallway. I'd bet that in these pictures that skunk was well aware of the fox - she was just waiting to see how naive it was.
Disrespect a skunk, like Mr. Fox, and you will get badassed. Nuclear option, no questions asked. Our neighbor had a "sight hound" dog that would chase everything and anything. She got seriously badassed.
