When drawbridges attack

Stuck-open drawbridges are causing problems on North Shore commuter-rail lines, Disgruntled reports:

... This morning, bright and early at 6:30am I leave for the train. As I am walking up to it the conductor opens the door and yells out to everyone, "If you have an alternate form of transportation to get where you are going, we recommend you use it! The drawbridge is stuck open in Saugus and we don't know when we will be leaving." Outstanding. My husband had already driven away and I am calling my friend who gets on at the stop after me. ...

I love when they say "if you have an alternate form of transportation..." If I had an alternate form of transportation, do you really think I would be taking the T?!? Just asking...

I know from having a 60 mile round trip commute before that it it isn't always possible to bike BUT cycling at least part of the way is sometimes a solution. I have been known to bypass sections of the Lowell line and bike Lowell to Wilmington, etc. to get around a jam up.

I absolutely despise the extremely unreliable bus service to Charlestown (rush hour? The buses should just levitate and hoover up people at the stops on the fly to keep the same route run time as at 6am or noon), so I bike as much as I can manage. So much less stressful - even with the Rt. 99 rotary!

Bicycling and walking are the best ways for commuting (weather permitting, of course), in that they permit one to get exercise during the day without having to worry about getting to the gym ontime for the evening workout lest they give the assigned piece of equipment to somebody else if they're just afew minutes late.

Walking and bicycling are also the best minimizers of stress during the workday also.

Good for you for biking, SwirlyGrrl.

Not everyone "has" to take the T...
...some of us choose to take it because we care about the planet.

Jesus Christ, this is priceless.

Aren't you just the perfect little person?

I'm sorry, but this cracks me up.

LOL.
