Yep, it's time to do your civic duty in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Quincy, Newton, etc.
For Boston residents, city-council links if you haven't decided whom to vote for in the at-large and Allston/Brighton races. The whole Connolly/Murphy mailing thing.
If you did vote today, what was it like?
I was voter 14 in my precinct around 7:40 this morning. There was a small mini-phalanx of four palm-card giver-outers standing right in front of the door (of course), although they formed a little mini-corridor to let me through. One guy said good morning and tried to give me a Connolly card. I shook my head no. "Oh, you're not voting?" "Yes, I'm voting, just not for Connolly," I replied. So, yeah, pretty boring. As I drove by Holy Name School in West Roxbury, I noticed Councilor Flaherty also ignoring that quaint law against politicking in front of a polling place - he was planted right in front of the door.

Quiet on Beacon Hill
I voted at about 7:15 at the West End Library on Cambridge Street (Ward 5, Precinct 4) on the north side of Beacon Hill.
There were three voters inside, but I am not sure if they had the standard 7 a.m. rush that is typical on election day. There were signs outside for Mike Ross (District 8 Councilor running unopposed), Flaherty, Yoon and Murphy. There was one person handing out Murphy cards.
I ran this morning past two our voting locations (Mt. Vernon street fire station and Fisher College) and saw absolutely no signage at all, which is weird-- especially since the Mt. Vernon location houses two precincts.
Did anyone experience the issues in Roslindale related to the scan reader that I heard about on WBZ? Something about their having to count the votes by hand?

Like five minutes after I drove by that school. If only I didn't have to be at work this morning, I would've turned around and checked it out, because 'BZ had a report that sounded like it was cut off in the middle: Voters were being told to put their ballots in an "auxiliary slot" for later counting when the machine was fixed and that "caused problems for some voters." But what sort of problems? They objected to having their ballots not in the machine? They thought somebody would look at their ballots? They all had vision problems and couldn't see the slot to put the ballots in? I know time is tight in drivetime, but they really should have devoted another 30 seconds to explaining just what the problem (beyond the fact the scanner was busted) was.
Man, I'm grumpy sometimes.

Got to love WBZ. Then again, if the only issue today is one scanning machine that somewhat forgot to plug in somewhere in Roslindale, it will be a good day.
Despite Councilor Yoon's comments in the Globe today, somehow I doubt that any precincts will be running out of ballots.

I held a sign for Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz at the Dilboy Post VFW in Davis Square. Several other people were there holding other signs for the campaigns of Gewirtz, Fred Berman, and Mayor Joe Curtatone. By 9 am, 98 people had voted.

I held a sign for Connolly this morning. I think he did wrong by sending out the mailing anonymously, but I think he said the right thing. Murphy's a nice enough guy, but I want someone in office who represents my progressive stance on issues, and Murphy is not that guy.

What a joke this election has turned out to be.

I *thought* about actually stopping as I drove around the rotary this morning, but nobody had any 20-foot-high banners mounted on cranes this year. Pretty sedate. So I kept on going.
That was a mistake, and I hope you can forgive me. Maybe on the way home :-).

Globe Upset The Campaign isn't more visible
Did you guys see the article in the Globe by Adrian Walker today that notes how no one seems to care about today's election? Am I wrong in noting that the Globe hasn't really covered the campaign, so perhaps it's no wonder that no one cares?
Where are the profiles of each of the candidates? Where are the articles on each of the debates, including the one on Beacon Hill I hear was pretty well attended?
Frankly, for people who've been asking me about this election-- I tell them to go to Universal Hub. Which is a shame, considering we're talking about the *BOSTON* Globe here.

Most unusual reason to vote for Arroyo
I was walking past the West Roxbury library tonight when some guy comes up to me and asks "Do you wear glasses?" Um, hokay, dude, maybe you need some, because my glasses are right on my face, but I play along and say "yes." He replies: "Felix Arroyo wears glasses, so you should vote for him!"
Also: Connolly had a sound truck going through West Roxbury calling out the voters. A sound truck, wow, now that is a serious blast from the past.
