And then oppose capital punishment?

I would agree with you...if the motorcyclist dies.

He can certainly sue the guy - or his estate - into oblivion.

Be interesting to see if this guy gets so much as a license suspension for attempted vehicular homocide.

He'll probably get a judge and/or a jury to defer to his advanced age (76), and plead that any time imposed would be a de facto life sentence. When car drivers kill motorcyclists through inattention or negligence they don't generally get more than a slap on the wrist anyway. Maybe they get a token fine and a six month license suspension at worst. (The American Motorcyclists' Association has been fighting that battle for years.)

As a motorcyclist, I'm pretty outraged.

I hope the rider recovers fully and swiftly from his or her injuries.

Maybe it's this scumbag's next victim of being run over by a car who dies instead. Let's nip it in the bud now and fry him.

Cuz that's what it sounds like.

"Ledonne was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash."

Wow. So they have a whole host of witnesses, photographs, and physical evidence. And they don't charge him with attempted murder? WTF!

This is just a week or two after the Wellesley death where police haven't bothered to charge the driver with anything and we were told to "trust them" by an anonymous commenter on Boston Biker.

No charges against the MBTA driver who hit Kelsey Rennebohm, left the scene, didn't report it, and lied to police and supervisors. Went home for the night.

They won't even NAME the people who murdered innocent, good people.

Why the hell SHOULD we trust prosecutors and police? As far as they're concerned, the only good cyclist is a dead cyclist!

Do you know the elements of that crime? Even motor vehicle homicide is a misdemeanor in this state for a crime like this.

The driver here was an 80+ year old who obviously shouldnt be driving. The police and DAs office are only going to charge people with crimes that actually exist, and crimes where a jury will convict.

Shooting a gun at someone and injuring/killing them is attempted murder/murder.

Running over somebody intentionally, knowing full damn well that running over somebody repeatedly WILL tend to kill them, is "oh I'm just an old man with a temper problem I didn't mean it and blah blah" vehicular homocide?

Seriously? RUNNING OVER SOMEBODY REPEATEDLY AFTER KNOCKING THEM TO THE GROUND WITH YOUR CAR IS NOT ATTEMPTED MURDER?

If I ever want to kill somebody, remind me to get behind the wheel first.

If the driver were a cop, they'd have charged the corpse with resisting arrest.
