Now BU wants to get into the roach coach business? Will they accept dining cards as part of meal plans? College students already have convenient Asian fusion cuisine - Ramen in a cup.
Hey, they've got to do SOMETHING with all the money they're *not* paying taxes with! Might as well buy up some food trucks so they can put food vendors out of business, now that they've gotten rid of the other landlords in the area.
I know they make brib--i mean payments as a gesture in lieu of taxes (I actually thought it was more like 5 million, not 3).
If private owners still owned those all apartment buildings (and had the gall to rent the units to actual Bostonians...you know, residents of those former neighborhoods), all their property taxes would add up to how much ?
BU's buying up apartment buildings allows them to claim they house students 'on campus' and gets rid of those pesky complaining neighborhood residents too.
-See Audbuon Circle, Kenmore Square, and Baystate Road for details.
The whole point of food trucks is to allow small business owners to provide food in places where they don't have the resources to open a fixed location.
Of any entity in Massachusetts, BU is one of the least likely to not have the resources to open a fixed location.
“We think there is a need based on areas of the campus that do not have as many dining options close at hand,” said Dining Services Director Barbara Laverdiere
So says the dining services department that just closed three dining halls over the summer!
Let me guess, they screwed up their math again, like when they built student village 2, of which half the students were required to have a dining plan, and made no adjustments to the already overburdened west campus dining room?
Literally weeks before the building was to open, their grand plan to serve the crowds was to keep the dining hall open an hour later. Because we all know students hungry at 6pm will wait until 8:30 to avoid long lines.

Did they run out of apartment buildings to buy?

3.2 million annual PILOT
3.2 million annual PILOT payment + another 3 mil in taxes = not paying anything?
How much would it be...
....if you or I owned that property, hmm?
