David Ortiz shows admirable restraint

Specifically, in not finding the nearest dumpster and tossing a certain Globe columnist into it headfirst after said columnist (one guess which one) accused him of taking steroids because, after all, he's old and Dominican (yes, he went there). Not linking to the column because I don't feel like giving him my two cents worth of Web traffic, but it should be easy enough to find for anybody who can log into bostonglobe.com.

Proving his innocence
Remember when it came out a few years ago that he tested positive in 2003 and he promised that he wouldn't rest until he proved his innocence? Did that ever happen? Was he golfing with OJ instead?
Shaughnessy on Ortiz
Well you have to admit..Shaughnessy has more balls than chin.
Who even listens to this guy. How does this Harpo Marx lookalike even get on TV
if only he were more like Harpo Marx...
....and by that I mean being a voluntary mute when on camera.
I get this is about a newspaper column, but I've had the misfortune to encounter him on local sportscasts/shows while channel surfing. He doesn't know what he's talking about on TV either.
I always thought he took a
I always thought he took a substance that was not banned at the time, but not straight up HGH or something like that.
Kudos to Dan S
I know it's not popular to say it out loud, but it is true. Ortiz used performance enhancing substances. He wasn't alone by any means. It's also true that many athletes begin to break down after they are forced to stop using PEDs. Look at the most recent example: Rob Gronkowski.
Are you really suggesting
Are you really suggesting that when athletes stop using PEDs, they break their arms?
not break their arms...
...but for some reason it makes them go break DANCING.
Ugh
It is the existence and continued employment of said columnist that have kept me from paying for online Globe access.
Shaughnessy hasn't been
Shaughnessy hasn't been relevant in 12 years. His writing is a joke, and it's honestly embarrassing that the Globe (which I believe has an otherwise excellent sports section - PeteAbe, ) still employs him with so many more talented feature writers out there. If he never wrote another column again, I'm thinking no one would notice. Time to cut him loose.
The company you keep.
Why should it be wrong to impune any baseball player since steroid use was so prevelent? I've always had the feeling too that a lot of these guys claiming to not have used are really just making a distinction without merit, they used something it just didn't pop up on the radar.
On a whim, I just checked to
On a whim, I just checked to see if he had a Facebook page to see what people's reactions were. Rei Solivan really let him have it, haha. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dan-Shaughnessy-Bos...
it is unfair if
Ortiz does well in April, therefore he must be on steroids again
Ortiz does poorly in April, therefore he must have used steroids in the past and is falling apart.
Athletes put themselves into this predicament when they let things get out of hand. But that does not give the media open space to roll out accusations whenever they feel like it and without evidence... actual journalists do something called investigating.
Far be it from me to defend CHB
Far be it from me to defend CHB, but there's these.
