Election roundup: Candidate says current councilors are cowards who let Menino destroy city
David Bernstein interviews Thomas Dooley, running for the district seat Mike Ross is giving up:
I know all the city councilors, moreso the ones that were there a few years ago. They’re all cowards. They’ve allowed Mayor Menino to terrorize them for 20 years. They never stand up to him. They’re all concerned about keeping their jobs. I’m in a position, as a city councilor representing the most affluent part of Boston, I will say what needs to be said to the mayor of Boston.
Bonus for a certain UHub regular: He's the only candidate to publicly call for the deciphering of City Council stenographic records.
It's nothing but net for Rob Consalvo in his first TV ad:
Special bonus footage: Consalvo hitting six three-pointers in a row.
John Connolly can't bottle up his enthusiasm for a proposed statewide referendum to make non-cabonated beverages subject to the 5-cent deposit law:
The current Bottle Bill has dramatically increased recycling and reduced the number of bottles that end up in landfills and it is time to update the law to keep up with the times. Expanding the Bottle Bill will make our streets and parks cleaner and help reduce our carbon footprint.
Bill Walczak, who doesn't want the Suffolk Downs casino built no matter what, says that if the idea does go foward, the state should reject Filene's Hole creator and minority Suffolk Downs owner Vornado's participation in the project unless it:
Submits to the background check required for all applicants or divests itself of its Suffolk Downs holdings. This company’s history in the city of Boston and elsewhere gives me great pause and provides for grave concerns for East Boston, Suffolk Downs and the city of Boston if they are allowed to go forward without scrutiny during your licensing process.
Bernstein chats with John Ribeiro, Jr., running against incumbent Sal LaMattina in District 1. He does not call current councilors cowards.

Hey! He's a real open minded guy!
He dated black women! That must mean he really knows how to address the violence in black neighborhoods!
Doesn't speak much for Walczak's situational awareness. ..
I'm pretty sure Vornado already left the Suffolk Downs group months ago. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong.
Walczak is right on
And you are on the right track. Vornado didn't want to submit to background checks so they put their ~20% stake in a blind trust. However, no one has stepped up to buy them out. It is a shady loophole to get Vornado out of scrutiny. Walczak is calling the gaming commission out on the special favors they seem to be giving to Suffolk Downs. He wants Vornado divested or investigated, not given special treatment.
Stand corrected...though I'm
Stand corrected...though I'm not sure if - under the gaming law - Vornado could receive any gaming profits if their name is not on the gaming license. Still, I would rather they be completely out of the picture.
FWIW...I'm beginning to think that the SD proposal is steadily losing its steam. I don't think the SD group will be able to come up with the cash that Wynn offered to Everett, nor do I think the voters in either Eastie or Revere will approve the proposal by Everett's margin. The fact that the mitigation agreement between the city and SD remains unresolved at this late date speaks volumes.
Suffolk D and Revere
They already have a benefits agreement with Revere, but it has not been revealed as they are waiting to get the Boston one hashed out. Revere (town govt and the populace in general) is pretty much on board with the idea as the project is way over on the edge of town. I wouldn't count SD out yet, but they definitely squandered their lead in the casino race.
Vornado is still involved
Vornado is still involved. You'll have to do a Google search to find out more but here's a Globe editorial on it.

Tom Dooley explaining it
Tom Dooley explaining it all:
"If you want to know the names of a couple of black girlfriends I’ve had, I’m a real open-minded guy. Do you think that there is a dual standard in Boston, where the city administration, because they are politically able to get away with it, allow for a certain amount of violence, murder, and mayhem where black people live? And are we in fact losing our black population, where it’s almost as if they’re becoming an endangered species? Many, many blacks that we see in Boston, they have African or Caribbean roots. The school population has shifted from the late 80′s, when a majority were black Americans, and now it’s Hispanic. And it’s not as if the population has changed all that much, it’s just that they’ve had so many shootings, there are a lot of people who just aren’t around and never became parents."
Okay, then.
It's a very good commercial
Consalvo's commercial is good. In fact, it is much more effective than Dan Conley's commercials. Consalvo is a strong candidate and he could end in the finals.
Where's Dapper ? He running ?
Where's Dapper ? He running ?
Dooley: Dear friend of Ross
"I am running because my dear friend Mike Ross is no longer available."
Then this: "I know all the city councilors, moreso the ones that were there a few years ago. They’re all cowards."
Precious.
The next mayor wears tights?
Sorry to focus on the unimportant stuff, but what the heck is Consalvo wearing during the hoops section of that commercial? At first I thought short shorts, but now it looks like nude tights.
Not reelecting incumbents. New more open Councilors.
Fritch Stenographic Services provides the City Stenographer. The software is Case CATalyst http://stenograph.com/category.aspx?id=40001&subid... instead of Plover free, open source stenographic software http://plover.stenoknight.com/ The contract for stenographic services at Boston City Council isn't advertised very widely grandfathering in the same City Stenographer without other professionals competing for City Stenographer. Compare the appointment of City Messenger http://anopenbostoncitycouncil.blogspot.com/2011/0... Openness is only talked about not put into the best practices at Boston City Council. The best check is not reelecting incumbents and voting for new more open Councilors.
give it a rest!
Also you're not fooling anyone, you up voted your own comment.
