Somebody's got a real bracket going in South Boston

Capt. Greland at C-6 reports somebody's been going around the Seaport area stealing those metal brackets used to attach banners to utility poles. As of last week, some 45 sets of brackets, worth $5,000, have disappeared from area poles.

WTF
So the city is paying on average $55.50/ bracket or $111 per set? The same bracket that cost on avg. under $3 at Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Apollo-1-2-in-Stainless...
Government waste at its best.
Installed cost?
That could be installed cost. They may also not be those same ones you see at Home Depot, either.
In any case, would it be possible to somehow stamp or mark public property items often sold for scrap and hold the scrap yards accountable if they ignore those marks and the scrap is not coming from a municipal source?
You think
The city is Gov is organized to the point they can predict labor cost! Wow you have to much faith. Everything in this city is bided on, and bids are placed by connected individuals. Same reason Mumbels was able to get his kid a $100k+ part time job at Suffolk construction.
Deal with contractors much?
Or have you ever had work done on an automobile?
If they were using outside contractors (aka the dreaded private sector) labor costs are factored, just like a carpenter or auto mechanic does.
Not the same thing
I believe the bracket in question is not just a pipe clamp, but is a much larger and more complex fitting including the clamp that goes around the light pole and cross bars that hold the fabric banner. Given that this is an item that is made and sold by the thousands and not by the millions, $50 a pop is not a crazy number.
Look here: $50 looks like a good price

Here's what they look like:

I was thinking they were more
I was thinking they were more like the two 12 inch or two metel brackets the comes out of polls that hold the banner. If that's the case $55 isn't so bad.
they terk our jerbs!!!
we use'ta pay god feerin' AMERICANS to hold flags and banners...damned pipe clamp corporate conspiracy.
Probably the guys from Cityside Towing
Probably the guys from Cityside Towing that were videoed stealing the banners in front of Fenway last year.
